Washington Lion hunt

Post by Buddyw »

I've been kinda busy lately, But We've been able to Put a Couple Cats up tree's this winter. Mostly Females, but this weekend we got some luck and found a nice Cat for my wife..

I think Me and Drew were more excited about it than my wife was, we pretty much wanted some photos of this hunt, My wife was just ready to get to her Boy.., Would like to thank Matt from up there for showing us around some, although he was over in ID guiding some Clients on this hunt he as nice enough to show us some spots to get a little action with some cats once in a while.

Also a huge thanks to Drew was with us on this hunt and He definately Did some Leg work and was fun hunting with. We wouldn't have gotten this Cat if I didn't have a good friend I could trust in the woods with basically everything that's inportant to me.. my boy, my Wife, My dogs, and my Guns.. He actually found the Track back 1 1/2 miles behind a Gate and we had to do this one all on foot ion deep snow. The Boy wasn't too impressed with Hiking 1.5 miles in deep snow to start a track,By the time we got to the track to let the dogs go, He got pretty upset. We pretty much shipped the dogs down is and after 45 minutes or so the dogs were treed. I pretty much handed Drew my Wife, the guns, and Everything He needed to get her to the Tree, and Hope they judged the cat right. Although my wife was wanting to take Brad back to the truck and scratch the Hunt I promised her I would be just as happy taking care of my boy, and to go get her cougar. So we parted ways and Me and the boy worked our way to the truck while they worked the timber into the Tree for the Second half of the hunt.

Laura is normally the one to hang back in the truck with Brad on some of the Rougher Tree's, while I get all the glory, Although I'm sure we could have all made the Tree and brad would have been happy once he seen the cat, it would not have been an enjoyable for Laura with her knowing Her Boy was really upset, So I decided to hang back and get Him Calmed down so Laura could enjoy her hunt. He told me he wanted to go to the truck. So me and him worked our way toward the truck.

It was a Hike from hell, deep snow and All on Foot. Good times.

We weighed it at 143lbs on a Scale, But If you just pulled down on the cat a little it would read 160lbs even.. I'm sure if the scale went above 160 It wouldn't be too hard to get 200.. :)

I Hope everyone Has a Merry Christmas and good hunting.

Congrats to the whole gang, Buddy. Raise that boy with the expression: It's all good after you live through it!

Congrats, what did the little guy think when he got to see the cat, looks like he is still clinging on to you pretty good.

Thanks guys,

I haven't been able to get on this Site much the last couple weeks between Hunting and trying not to piss off any customers with their Christmas orders.

Bradley has the expression "wass tha?" He was sure asking wass tha?.. wass tha? when they came out of the woods dragging the cat behind them.. Actually this was the first Cougar Tree that he didn't make, all the others were started from the road and hiking in he could hear the dogs barking and it kept him occupied. But he wasn't so sure about seeing this one up close, He likes them better in the trees with the dogs under them.

It's been fun, He's seen a few of them in the tree this season, It's been the first time that he's seen the cat, last year he was still a bit young and it's pretty hard to show him bobcats.. Cougars were a little easier to see.. His Eyes were glued to the cats we caught before this..

I'll try and post some more photos of the hunt when I get a Chance and some of the dogs since that's what this trip was about, Finding a nice Cat was just the icing,

Drew had a Young dog that hadn't been on any real hunts besides some coon work, After we did some training to get her fired up on the first lion we caught, She was definately all about cats and made this whole race from start to finish and stayed treed.. So that was pretty cool to see a young dog do so Good,

These were the only photos I had at work that were already re-sized to fit on the website.

Congrats Buddy!! Nice photos. But just thought I'd mention something.

In the first photo you put a little disclaimer "My buddy is a horse jockey, really small guy."

You forgot the caption in the second photo which should read something like this:

"Just thought I'd mention that I'm not nearly as ugly in real life as I appear in this photo."

That's one nice looking lion and great looking family, but damn dude... Did you fall out of "the tree" and hit every branch on the way down? ;) ;)

Congrats on the catch!! I can't even fathom how many miles I'd have to cover in Utah to find a lion like that. Way to go!!
