the reason i asked is i have heard of females that have had there tails shot or cut off. why? so guides and some others do not kill the cat as this does not make a good mount or rug.

Possibly born the wrong time of year and froze off ? brown tip thwarts that theory though. Good question?

That sounds like a great idea to keep the population up in areas

I know how their tails fall off around here and it ain't from fighting other lions.

Of course in your country hard to say... could be something in the water! :D

Ive caught one female with a bob tail and it didnt have a black tip. Sure have always liked the idea of saving them by doing this. I wouldnt recomend the banding thing though. I have killed dogs doing that. Shooting it off would be better. Lets it drain and fight infection.

they were both at night and i would have bet on it that there tails had the brown tip. i even thought it was wierd that it didnt turn white . because the scars on there head have white hair. i could be wrong on the brown tip but i would of bet.

I heard about one around home here inSW Washington that was a mature tom with bobtailed. I can't believe our hunters would have shot his tail off unless they made a bad shot..... we always figured like jc that he had been fighting.
