hey stuntman, great looking dogs. were in idaho are u located. I got about 4 stags my self and one deer hound airdale cross and was wondering how u got yours going. We have been trying to foot trap one but have not had any luck so far. thinking about trying to live snare one now but just curious as to your advice on startin them. thanks
Where did you get your Stags from? I wouldnt go that route with the trapping, first check if thats even legal. Second if they "got it" they'll do it. It dosnt hurt to start with and older experianced dog but it you dont have acess to one make short dumps and let them settle in stay back out of the action, let them do the work. The dumps can get longer when they get better at killing them.
It depends who Im hunting with my dogs are Stags ,Uphills have some bull blood another guy runs some 3/4 Hot blood 1/4 Stag. But in general most of us have StagX Stag bred type dogs. When you get them going put somthing up on here good luck. Stunt.
This might be a stupid question to you experienced coyote hunters but i live in the mountains that are heavily wooded and i was wondering how hard it would be to run coyotes in this kind of terrain. What problems might i experience.

Outlaw- before I came west I live and hunted on ground you described. I kept Lurchers and Stags and hunted right along with a nice pack of hounds that my friend kept. I used them like a gun with in reason or on a walking bay. But they wernt being used like I use them out here. Sighthounds are just that , they use there eyes to hunt and nose a little if you let them . If I was to do it over again I'd do it the same way but make sure I had hounds that would run to catch a North Eastern Coyote and a pair of solid Stags.
you told outlaw a pair of stags stuntman is this a personal preference or is there a reason for two as opposed to one ? just picking your brain a bit if you dont mind stuntman.
Well i have thought about turnin some of my scent hounds onto coyotes but have not decide. I would bet Stuntman runs two because then they compete. jmo. I noticed when just running mine the run harded with two chasin something.
Kordog- If I was hunting like I decribe in my previous post I would use two. You can use only one all day long but two is just insurance. It takes a hell of a Stag to handle a coyote one on one [if you can find one] they are very rare. Remember I'm counting on the hounds to pitch in . I dont like guns when coyote hunting , its all dog or he gets a pass unless he's heading for a highway or someplace that will endanger the hounds.
Here a pic of a set up like a described. hounds had it bayed up under that ledge sent the lurchers to the bay and walked up on a done deal. Makes the hounds a lil rougher imo when they get to do this, boost their confidence.
