spending time with your young hound and working on voice and hand commands through repitition is the way to go. I usually leave my shock collar off my young hound until I have him well started on the right game, then I'll put the shock collar on him and work on breaking him off game. You can also teach him to come to you with the tone feature or a very minimal shock if you have no tone. The only reason I'd strap one on a pup a bit earlier than above is if he was impossible to gather up at the end of the day. Good luck, Paul Conway

If you will go to the Tri-tronics website, you will find some great hints from John Wick on the proper way to introduce the Pup or Hound to the training system!

We start our pups @ 3 months on a 30 ft. rope....teaching tham to came when called by name and the command"Come here"....we tug the rope and pull the pup to us calling their name and the command several times.

Then we call, the Pup, give a tug, and send a tone...if the Pup fails to respond, a low level correction is sent and the rope tugged harder...usually it only take 10 minutes or so before the pup is coming on command.

We have accomplished several things:

!. taught the Pup that it is imperative that it come when called.

2. what the tone and correction will mean iff comand not obeyed!

3. for relief from the correction come to the sound of our voice...that is to be the Hounds comfort zone and place for relief....the sound of our voice and later the sound of our Truck Horn.

Never use a Shock collar on a Hound who has not been trained on how to respond as you will burn lots of high priced gasoline trying to catch up to a runnaway Hound!
