Trigg-Running walker comparison
It is probably common knowledge and been posted here before, but I do not know the answer to the question so I need some help. What is the main difference between a trigg and running walker. Is one bred to be colder nosed or run a track faster? from my experience the build appears to be the same and unless you were told it was a trigg you wouldnt know the difference.
Re: Trigg-Running walker comparison
From my experience the triggs are a little colder nosed and have a little more of a horn mouth. They are not as fast as a running walker but you have faster or slower dogs in all breeds. my personal preference in a running walker. I currently have Triggs, Julys, running walkers, and crosses of them all for running coyotes. Dont know much about their history but have several running dogs that look like triggs, have been told they are completly different but you never know who to believe in the hound business.

Re: Trigg-Running walker comparison
I started with Triggs in 1973, because they have better mouths (usually horn or bawl) and more endurance than running walkers. I needed a dog that would be ready to go tommorrow after a hard day today. Some are gritty some not, some tree some not, but I would say more tree minded than running walkers. Like the poster said, there is good and bad in all. Stay away from the "pen dogs"

My trigg like fox more than yote, had a cold nose, easily differentiated cold trailing bark compared to when she bounced the fox or yote out of it's bed and got it runnin. She was a digger at the kennel, but not a barker. Her litters produced some solid bobcat, yote and fox hounds. Keystonepaul

I had a female from from a breeding he did about 9 years ago give or take. Can't find the papers on her to tell you what she was out of exactly. The litter mine came from was mainly red with white points and 3/4 to full white collars. Looked a lot like yours in color- good cold trailer, like fox more than yote and produced several litters of half trigg/half running walker that were decent on bobcats. Lost her young- would have liked to see her at 5,6, 7 years old. She could run a track. Good running, Paul Conway.

Mr. Conway, I have a half trigg-half running walker out of one of Mr. Boggs old brood gyps that he lent to me and one of my males that does really well on grey and red fox.

Re: Trigg-Running walker comparison
Thanks Perk, I talked to Mr. boggs a few (maybe as much as 5 years ago or so- one year blends with the next) about the litter my trigg female came from and he remembered each pup in the litter. Very nice gentleman and a pleasure to talk to. I watched her and her brother in a small fox pen run for several hours before purchasing her. Her brother came screaming down a red fox track that turned when it got to where I was standing and he overran it a bit. She came down a bit behind him and turned on a dime without missing a step. She was like that on the outside as I grew to learn. If I knew how much I would enjoy hunting behind her I'd have bought her brother that day as well. Wish she had lived longer for sure. Thanks for the info. PS: I'll have to show your post to my Nephews that hunt with me they'll get a kick out of your "Mr. Conway". Thanks Perk, Paul Conway.
