Garmin- Protective Case VS Nylon Pouch

Post by Melanie Hampton »

What are you guys using for your Garmin?

I can't decide what I want or what I need.. I obviously need something to protect the face (I may have busted my ass a time or two and landed on it when I had it clipped to my belt  )

They nylon pouch looks more secure, but is a pain to get out and look at? I really don't find myself looking much at the Garmin once I get out of the truck..

Or is the Protective Case good enough? I usually carry my Gamin in a zip up inside pocket in my coat.. But I don't always want to wear my coat.. So then it goes into my backpack..

Sooooooo.... I don't know what case to get... Thoughts?

Hi melanie, we don't use either as a rule. we get the protective (non specific) screen covers from Walmart for 5 bucks for several. The clear self sticking ones. Just get the ones big enough to to cover the screen and trim them to the size of your astro's screen. Then using electrical tape (slice in half parrallell to the roll so your using half width tape frame the screen saver with the electrical tape. If you take your time the electrical tape covers the screen saver, but only blocks the nonviewing portion around the edges of your glass screen and does not decrease your screen size so to speak. This keeps the screen saver from from curling around the edges before it needs replaced. As for storage we use a cord strung through the slot on the Astro and hang it around our necks. Some of our Jackets have high chest pockets it can sit in while corded around your neck, etc. Good luck, Paul Conway

I really like the protective case. It protects the entire unit and you have access to all the button's e.t.c. without having to remove it from the case. I have a small caribiner attached to my belt loop and hook the strap of the Garmin to it, and snap the unit onto my belt. You can unsnap the Garmin, look at it, and it's still hooked to the caribiner so it can't be dropped or lost.

This is what I prefer to use. It's an old pic. Now the Garmin goes where the tracker is. There is a strap there to lock in place.

Hey those waist packs are cheaten!! When you put 20 extra pounds on theres a ridge of clothes above your belt that tends work your belt, britches and waist pack back towards earth as your wearing out the boot leather behind the hounds through the course of the day. But with the garmin around a cord on my neck I figure another 25 pounds it'll lay face up on that ridge of cough..clothes, cough, cough so I can just look down and read it. :? Keystonepaul

Paul, that is a 4 point chest harness. So it rides high, and would rest on the upper part of the extra ridge of clothes. On the shelf I guess  Better than having stuff in your pockets pulling your britches down

The Garmin carrying case from Lion Country Supply works really good & you can see your screen without taking it out.

I have used this for the past 2 years, it is a great carrying case for the Astro. This case protects the screen and the strap that comes with the case is excelent to carry the unit.

Yeah, you guys are right. These things are very nice and well made. I just got one.

The only problem I can see w/ it, is that it does have alot glare which makes the screen hard to see.

I trimmed down a screen protector from my I pod touch, to protect the screen. And I have the stone's creek belt case. Works pretty good. Bryan

I can't stand the lioncountry see through case. Hate the way it hangs and the glare.

Steve where can you get the chest pack and who much?
