Long Hikes

Post by MThound »

I have been on enough big ones to know how to appreciate a hike like this! The dogs ran a bobcat approx. 3+ miles before the had it treed. As I come around the corner I watched it climb. This hardly ever happens. Anyone else get this lucky?

I seen a few times this winter dogs locate a tree but was looking the wrong way when the cat went up. In stead of looking ahead of the dogs I seem to be looking at the dogs them see them locate a tree. Tim seen one go up last year with me right beside of him. Dewey

Hunting an area I had never been in before, six or eight years ago I hiked for five hours up and done some pretty nasty hills. I finally got there in the dark . It wasn't even kill season, I leashed up the dogs and was trying to figure out where the he'll I was and I noticed some easy walking twenty yards away. It was a road! My hunting buddy was kind enough to find me a couple miles back toward my truck and then tell me he forgot to put batteries in his receiver for the tracking collars . At least he didn't drive to the tree lol. Good times.

My best friend and I caught about 170 lb. tom lion this year that way. Our dogs chased him almost 14 miles before we got him put up. we drove the six wheeler within 75 yards of the tree. Unfortunantly he crossed the highway putting himself into a unit the had the qta filled. We had a guy that wanted to kill him, but had to let him go. 10 days later with another hunter we cut the same toms track crossing back across the highqway. We built a big circle around him with a few guys anifferent packs of dogs to feed into him. He didnt go to far this time, but again we drove snow machines and atv's within 120 yards of the tree and got him killed.
