As long as it is warm let her have them where knows and is at ease and where she is going to stay. Some females don't like them moved. Dewey

dirt is the biggest problem and if she has never had pups she might get super dog aggressive towards any other dogs that get near her at least some do

Its the only place I have ever had a litter of pups is outside if you have a dog weather proof dog house they will be just fine. Andy

Re: pups born outside?
I had a litter in November once in an unheated, unisulated, openings between the wall boards garage. I built an 8x4x4 plywood shelter around the whelping box inside the garage and heated it with a heat lamp- got that sucker pretty warm. All 8 pups made it with no problems. probably overkill, but it worked.
Just a note, I had the second litter in the summer and moved a 10x10x6 kennel in the garage and she climbed the 6 ft fence, bloated like the great pumpkin and escaped the day before giving birth- tense 8 hours while I looked for her until she was found. Once she started labor and after wards she was content in the kennel in the garage. So they can do some things you wouldn't think they could. I moved her in there for about 2 weeks prior to acclimate her and still she went looking for her own place to have the pups. Go figure. Paul Conway.
