humid or dry heat which is worse
i was just wondering if anyone else ever thinks about the differance and whats it does to dogs
Re: humid or dry heat which is worse
I have to go with humid heat. I can deal with dry heat to a point, but that thick humid crap is plain awful. My hunting hell is one of those brutal hot/humid July days with no wind where the dogs end up treed or hung up in the middle of big section and you have to fish them out. I get nauseous just thinking about it.
A good check for bottom of a dog is how hard it hunts in the heat, you just have to be carefully to not stroke them out.

Hot and humid is worse in my opinion but i haven't hunted in the dry heat very much. if it gets hot here it is usually humid too. nothing worse that haveing to go in and catch dogs that arelaying in the mud or water to keep cool or to get away from the deer flies when it is 90 degrees and humid. sometimes you could just have some friends come over and run in and catch your dogs for you. that seems to be the easiest thing to do

Dry is worse for them trying to trail in, but humid is much harder on them and me when it comes to endurance. When you are in the triple digits and it is humid on top of that, you are asking for some dogs to heat stroke. The humidity pushes the heat index way up. Yesterday it was 96 here and the heat index was 107. That will make you sweat walking from the truck to the house, much less crawling strait up through mountain laurel. We have had issues when they tree in the heat and it takes us a long time to get to them. A really hard tree dog will stroke out if you can't get there and get him slowed down quick enough.

Hot and Humid is definitly worse than dry heat, but both are dangerous for dogs. need to really keep them hydrated!

Chris and David I concur with you hot and humid will kill a dog quicker, dry will shut the trail down but if you can find some shade you may be alright.

heat sucks period!!! LOL. but humid is definately harder on dogs. seen dogs both coon hunting and bear hunting that werent in shape go down and get plain goofy in high humidity trying to keep up with dogs that were in shape. i sure like hunting where there is humidity though my hot nosed damn dogs always can track decent. LOL.

dry heat is just plain miserable to try and run a track in, dont know about humidity though.
but i keep my dogs at home when it heats up here. not only do i hate it, but i cant afford to go killin a dog because i wanna go hunting.
