Gray Fox

I know this isn't the right section, but ppl in fox section dont seem to talk much. I want to start my treeing walkers on them. I run bobcats. Do grays tree easily? Do they run far? Any more information about hunting gray foxes would be greatly appreciated!

They always have run more than tree in my neck of the woods. If the did go up a tree it was a small apple tree with many small branches.

All I do is foxhunt and here in my part of Va, your gonna catch them on the ground or run them in a hole 95% of the time, not many tree, might put up 5-10 a year or so, 5 being avg, 10 being on the high end. Of course i run a pack of running dogs after them, not tree stock. Of the trashy coon dogs ive seen run them, none put them up any trees here either.

Perk, how many dogs do you run at a time on greys? Did you ever hunt them any further north? I live in PA and every year for about the last five i think about running them, we have a ton.

Ryan, when i go by myself i take 10 to as many as 20 dogs and pups. Depends on whats in heat, what is healthy, what isnt too tired, where im going, and what the weather is. Never hunted them out of state. They are loads of fun to run. Have ran and caught foxes with less, but the more voices makes for a prettier chase in my opinion. Just have to know your hounds voices and abilities and eliminate the ones who are hurting you.
Just drove thru pennsylvania this past weekend to a wedding. I came from Va went to a buddys around Altoona, then we went north to Warren. I didnt see much of what i considered grey fox country in my travels, although i imagined that i was having a good chase when i passed some of those huge crop fields, a grey in a soybean or corn field can be loads of fun. saw plenty of red fox country though

You southern guys and your huge packs! I've got nothing but respect for anyone that can handle 10 or 20 dogs by themself. I can't keep two or three in line. I'm less than a half hour from Altoona, if your ever out this way again stop by for a visit. Our Greys live in brushy cut over ares and thick laurel on the mountains. They really like to den on rocky hillsides it seems. Seems like grouse cat and fox cover are all pretty close to the same thing around here. I never ran a grey but I keep kicking the idea around.
