I recently purchased a couple of bark limiter collars. On the instruction sheet it says to not have them on any longer than 10 hours at a time.
I want to use them for kennel boardom barking only.
I used them last night and it was the quietest night since I moved them here.
My ????-Do these collars affect the way a dog will act on the trail when bark collar is not applied? I plan on using tracking collars for hunting and want to know if you guys have experienced the dogs thinking the tracking collars are shock collars and they won't open up on the track?
I talked with the guy I bought my pups from and he has used them for years and never mentioned any side affects with this type of collar.
I just don't want to mess these pups up and not have them open up like they should.
Any input on this matter will be appreciated......Tim
tri-tronics bark limiter
Re: tri-tronics bark limiter
I have used bark collars on my dogs in their kennel consistantly. At times i have left them on the dogs for a week or two. They dont bark much around the house, unless they can smell a bear or cat, then they will bark right through the collar... I dont think it effects them on the trail or in any way while hunting. They learn real quick that they cant bark at home everywhere else is fair game. After being consistant with this for a few months i dont use a bark collar at all and they have learned they cant make noise at home. Well, most of the time anyway, they are still dogs.
my opinion is it will not effect their hunting-trailing voice or ability.

Re: tri-tronics bark limiter
I used one for a while worked good at first but some of the dogs learned to bark thru it . Wont effect barking on track at all.I would be carefull how long you leave them on though.I had one dog that would develope staff infection if I left it on more than than the ten hours. Getting off my lazy but and being consistant about diciplining them for barking works better for me than the collars though. When I do it.Spending time with the dogs handling them and hunting them works even better. Good Luck Larry

Thank You for your input.
These collars really shut the kennel barking down completely.
There are other ways to remedy this but I hate to do it as it confuses
the dogs as to what is going on.
I was just worried that the dogs would associate the weight of the bark limiter with the weight of a tracking collar as being the same and not opening up.
Been awhile since I trained new pups and i am probably worring about things that won't come to pass.
