Gestation Period

How close have you came to the birth day of your pups? And was it luck ? I know the 63 day rule but have read that normal gestation is 58/68 day with 63day being the average. So do I start counting from the first time that they hooked up or in the middle of the first time and the last time? I've raised litters before but never tried to hit the day. I know that I can start taking her temperature and when it drops below 100 F with in 24 hour labor will start or watch for milk that's the way I've done before.

This is funny we have a dog with almost the same dates, we are guessing the 21st, right at the beginning of lion season. So I will guess the same for your dog.

i use the 63 day on my dogs but start watching at 60 from my first visual of the mating bout 95% are right on the 63 day mark @ two litters a year for twelve years now .

Hey Jeff, My litters are almost always 63 days, within 12 hours or so and I always count from the 1st time they hook up.

i agree with mike usually count from the first hook up most my litters are 62-63 days only had one 59 days

I bet Nov. 20 unless there is a storm within a day or two. Then she will wait for the storm. It will be in the middle of the night.

Well we had a storm Saturday night thur Sunday morning NO pups. Checked on her this morning NO pups, so I let her come in the house to lay by the fire, about a hour later I was on the phone a looked over at her and she was cleaning off her first pup Nov 21 7:40 am It 12:30 pm my time and if she is done I got 7 future little cat dog to my name
