Re: Bobcat trapping
Cubbies are very good for bobcats, so are walk through sets and log crossing over streams. Ditto on Trapperman, great website and a wealth of information on trapping over there. Good luck.

Re: Bobcat trapping
The way to trap bobcats is your basic coyote set, dirt-hole, flat-set and alot of the time you can catch them on scent post sets. You can even get a big bird feather and tie it above your trap set which ads eye appeal which cats love and you dont even have to use bait or scent.

Re: Bobcat trapping
Ive only used cubby sets, so that the cat can be released fairly easy, with out a hassel. I dont trap for the fur because I'm only allowed one a year here unless I take a trip to the U.P. then I can take two, and would rather catch it with the hounds! I trap a lot of fox and coyote, and have a buddy thats really good a catching bobcats. He takes a beaver carcuss and sticks it in a leaning tree, and places a log across the tree high enough so the cat needs to step over it, he then sticks his trap on the upper side of the log. you'll need long enough chain so that the cat doesnt hang himself by the foot (because its not a humane way to hold one). He uses this set because the snows typically deep here when its trapping season for bobcats, he catches a cat every year he trys to catch one.

Re: Bobcat trapping
I agree with cubby and dirt hole, feather will work, but I always use some old strands of cassette tapes hung on tree limb, it seems to get their attention better and when you are targeting cats you need to set more than one trap set a couple about 20 yards out from the tape, cats lose interest fast if they are watching one thing and something else comes through that catches their attention they will wonder off on it so words of experience here are sent is not as important as site with cats just be creative, I know a guy that uses yarn as a cat attractor and is pretty successful, oh and always #3 trap.

Re: Bobcat trapping
there are a lot of different lures out there. beaver is a really good bait to use for cage trapping anyway!
Re: Bobcat trapping
My question is has anyone ever thought of or used a glow in the dark attractor in place of the feather waving around in the wind??? I've wanted to try that for quite a while now, got about 20 sets out and thinkin bout hangin up some glow on em....
Re: Bobcat trapping
I've never used glowing indicators,in Nevada we can't use anything else but artificial attractants.I use white flagging.it seems to work fairly good.the scent I've mostly used is from rmfur.com it's called spots of money, smells like black licorice.
