I've had best luck with tri tronics. There are other brands that probably work but the warranty and product tri tronics offers in my opinion can't be beat.

I have had the best luck the wallmart kind they are 30 dollars and last for a long time I had one that I took off before I went hunting left it on the dog house got back late. Put the dog back on the chain and didn't put it back on. The dog chewed it all up it sat out there for a month and every once in awhile when I would be out there she would be munching on it I think to mess with me. I finally picked it up and it still worked. This is what's left.

I would say to hook up your shock collar to the highest level (if you have one) and let er rip when need be. It will be more effective than a bark collar i believe because you controll the flow and a bark collar can turn on the dogs neck and not work right. If you do need a bark collar though i would suggest one that you can charge to save yourself from buying batteries.
