Desire................

Post by dixiejagds »

All right guys, I feel as if I am at the foot of the master when I am on here. I generally just read and don't speak much. But I want to ask a question. Are there dogs that have the nose to start a cold track, and also have the "run to catch" mentality. I can get a dog that will start a track and they have all been slow track straddlers. I can get dogs that are fast and will shut down a hog, but have no nose. So my question is, Are there dogs that do both and do both really well? I have about decided to get a cold nosed slow dog to get a hog going and then dump Fast and Faster in the race. Fast and Faster are a pair of walker/pits that give you all they have and can really cover the ground. We have some young Lipper walkers that hold a lot of promise, but I am not sure about the nose on them. Thanks in advance.

The best dog I ever saw at this was a plott. At 10 years old he still outran everything we had. One in a million, though, cause I have seen tons of'em since and all were either slow or hot nosed. I know they are there, just looking to see if there is a line that consistently produces these dogs, or are they just rare in all breeds.

why do ya need fast ? some dogs are fast allright/they are runnen infront of the game ? Other hounds now an then come along and they run so fast they rundownintotheground/most every track they start/ oh yea a have a terrable time finding anyone selse too drop ther dog a second time on the ground with your worldbeatter speedy dog/ the other hunters don!t want that hard of a pullen put on there dogs/it pulls the hound right out of their good slower dogs ! futhermore : I`ve seen medium speed dogs tha every cat, lion or bear they run there gutts-out befor they got treed-up/but the allways HAD THE MEAT !!
consider what simply was just told ya....it`s volumes .

Yep... And the one's I have seen have no racing stripes on them.. And when you get one, you will go through a lot of others that just don't measure up the same... I have hunted with a whole family of dogs like that..
