this is for pets, and involves an ongoing subscription to a website. Its expensive and its aimed at the pet market. It involves satellite, cell phone, radio technology all in one collar. Plus its only in the UK. However, it may be the direction our tracking systems will be moving in.

Satellite navigation technology is being fitted in dog collars to foil thieves and help owners find their lost pooches.

Tracking devices will be secured in a new lockable collar made from an anti-cut material.

The device will find dogs who take a little trip
Owners will receive a text message if their dog goes beyond a pre-determined boundary.

They can then log onto a website which will show the dog's precise location, even if the animal is inside a building.

It is the first satellite-tracking system to be incorporated into a dog collar and is aimed at preventing the ever-increasing crime of dog-theft.

No precise figures are kept on the number of dogs stolen in the UK as they are not logged by police or the Home Office, but campaigners say it runs into many thousands each year.

The collars will use three tracking devices - satellite, telecom and radio frequency.

"Dog theft isn't high on police priorities, for obvious reasons, " said Andrew Stewart, director of Rerieva, the company behind the new product.

"But for owners and families, if a dog gets lost it really is a traumatic experience," he said.

The collar, which was launched at this week's Crufts Dog Show in Birmingham, is due to go on sale in July at £200, plus a monthly fee.

I heard about this, but have yet to see one and at 200 British Pounds that is equivelant to nearly $400 American. Quite dear for a single collar. The monthly fee would probably be very costly. I know my Irish mobile plan is more than double what I pay for my plan here in America. I also have to doubt just how good it will work in all areas. I know the mobile phone service over there is crap, mainly in the North of Ireland. I do not think I will be purchasing one of these collars. It is a good idea, but think it is overall a waste of money unless you have a very high profile dog.
