CHEAP FEED

Post by BIGBLUES »

Just wondering if anyones got a secret recipe for getting the weight back on the dogs and energy back into them. I always used liver, rice, and gravy mix but my vet says thats not the way to do it. He says buy canned dog food when you run them alot because it has the carbs they need. Theres got to be a cheaper way...... Any info will be greatly appreciated.

go to a bread outlet store [stale bread] buy it by the bags and feed them plain white and whole wheat bread, it will put the fat on them, throw in a large cake or too.

after so long in a stale store they throw it in the dumpster,so I get a paper sack cramed full [placed] for a dollar, hog guys come and get it.

When I'm huntin my hounds hard and it's cold I feed alot of meat scraps and beef with fat is the better between wild game and fish.
My wife makes burger type patties of ground beef or game scraps and addsto the mixture
Molases
Wheat Germ
Canola Oil
Oatmeal or Oat Groats cooked in Oxo beef cubes
A High fiber cereal
mix it all together and toss in some gelatin powder to help hold it all together..freeze and take out as needed
I give 2-3 a day to start and then a couple during the day when I'm hunting
....you will see a big difference in a few days.
Also mix and match your dog food with different brand names...... look for fish, chicken and such, they sometimes just don't get from one feed what is needed.
BEEF SCRAPS with fat is the best and I've run hounds for over 30 years here in Canada

Talk to the Mushers, they run dogs longer and harder they any other type of dog out there. Beaver and horse meat is what they are all looking for.
