where's the coons at

Post by bobbercrazy23 »

I've had 2 box traps out for a couple weeks in spots where ive caught coons before or pulled coons out of houses and havent even had one touch the trail of bait into the trap, what do i do, where do i go. i need a live coon for my dog in a bad way.
If it has fur I chase it.

Sounds like you need to change up your bait. Also I would make sure you can use caged traped coons in your state to train you dog before posting it on the site. I have seen a few guys get busted by thier states Fish and Game from things they have said on this site and others.

follow their tracks to their dens, make your self a make shift snare pole and cram one in a cage, or ask your local nuisance wildlife guy for one

If you are seeing tracks in the snow, put the dog on the track and walk him out with it to where the track ends. My guess is there will be a coon there somewhere, and he will learn that he has to find the coon rather than have you show it to him in a trap.

Maybe they have been trapped before, coons are smart critters.

u gotta put it up against a building or structure. they walk along them looking for food. if the trap is in the open or under a tree, they wont take the bait. smart lil suckers. and ive found that dry cat food works the best. ive caught 6 across from my house in a matter of 2 months and let them go in the woods.....they've been attacking my cats.....lol.

Usually all i do is let my dog get fired up on him then i let him go until he gets out of sight then i turn my dog lose
