Hunting Dilemma
Hunting Dilemma
I was wondering what anyone thinks the time frame should be from the time a lion is released from a trap until it can be legally taken with dogs? I believe the current regulation in our area is 24 hours as you are not allowed to shoot a lion caught in a trap.

Trappers & houndsman spend more time in the woods than anybody else. I think it is in every houndsman's best interest to get along with trappers. You open a war with a trapper he is liable to shoot your dogs or not care where he puts snares out. A lot of trappers are as dedicated to there sport as hound guys are.
I have seen a lot of shoddy traps that would in no way hold a lion and I have also helped release several lions from traps. If this guy had a lion in a trap for at least several hours he is probably a good trapper. If he shot that lion there is no proof that it was in a trap and if he did it this time he probably did it in the past and will do it again. Even if the lion had trap marks on its foot there is no proof that it was in the trap when he shot it. He could say well apparently it was in a trap and pulled out the day before etc. By making a big deal out of it you will only gain an enemy out in the woods.
