Training rig dog....
Training rig dog....
At what age can you see success in training a rig dog? Can you start to see results in a six month old pup that shows a strong nose and desire to chase?

We have always found that we have more sucess with training a rig dog only when you are ready to start breaking the dog from running trash and only running disired game.

I donot train rig dogs I just expose them. You can tell by how they act on the deck when they are young if they are going to make rig dogs.

Rig dogs are born not made. Most people just get in there way trying to make them do it right. Dewey

Re: Training rig dog....
I just put thim on the box or quad and start hauling them around with the big dogs at about 4 months. most of my young dogs will start striking by six months. when they want to go i turn them loose. if they strike deer or other off game i dont get to hard on them, maby just tell them no. the old dogs should tattle tell on them, the trick is to not let them ever run trash if you can help it at all. when they strike what you want them to be chassing, praze them up real good. I exspect a lot out of my dogs and if they cant do it i cull them. I only keep and breed the ones that make the 1- 1.5 year cut.
