Lion kill
Lion kill
I know this has been discused, but I have some questions about a deer kill that I found.I cut about a day and a half old track that led me to a deer kill.the deer had been buried back up and the only thing missing was one hind quarter.I went back today witch is two days later and it hadn't been eaten on at all.my question is,how long will a lion go between feedings.and roughly how many feedings will last a average sized cat.I also know that the lion is nowhere near the kill, why would a lion leave the kil?has any one else run into this type of situation.
Re: Lion kill
did you get those dogs? I've seen them not come back at all. sometimes its a long time between visits. others they'll sit on it till its gone.

Yes I bought 4 dogs from Jeff.so far they are more than I expected.I've caught a nice tom and a young one in the last week.I will post pics,I'm deffinitly hooked.do you think a cat might go 5 or 6 days without going back to a kill.I'm not sure if I should give it up on this one.

Re: Lion kill
Cats are funny it could come back after 4-5 days or another one may come in and claim the kill. I am never sure its the same cat that made the kill if several days go by without feeding on a kill but almost always a lion will come finish off a buried kill.
I found a fawn killed and buried last year just its head eaten, I should say my dogs found. Anyhow it was bloated and looked atleast 24hours old. Dogs could not get anything going. I cheaked back for 2 days and nothing then 3rd day it was gone but I found a hoof. Then the dogs took off and treed a little guy within 400 yards. I figured mom had made the kill and the little guy came to eat it. it was a 40-50lb cat real small.
I have seen a kill go up to a week without activity then get hit. As long as its not smelling too ripe there is hope a lion will come eat it. Happens alot more in cold weather.

Re: Lion kill
I don't know much at all about lions, or there behavior around kills, but I watched a special on national geographic and they had lions on game cameras on kills in heavily populated wolf country. The lion would kill a deer , lap up all the blood ( blood apparently has a high percentage of water in it) eat the major organs ,( they are easier to digest) and then leave the rest of the carcass for the wolves.I thought that was pretty Damn interesting.
