do some more research on old fashioned plotts they looked pretty impressive to me, not big and houndy. swampland plotts seemed to be bigger and pioneer drum was too big. they aren't around much for a reason.

Most guys that I know of try very very hard to stay away from Drum, it's pretty hard to do, but can be done, he spit out alot of pups, but anyone that believes for a second that he was 100% plott is kidding themselves, theres just no way. Some of the pioneer dogs were fantastic, Drum on the other hand is one to be avoided at all costs if possible IMO.

Dollins plotts are some of that old fashion plott line. If u are looking for Brandenburgers Drum thats where u will find it. The Dollins plotts I have they have drum in 16 times in 7 generations. Despite what everyone says about these big hounds they catch and tree just as much game as anyone else not to mention the coldest nose Ive seen

Old pioneer blood has has as mutch to offer as any. Its what you personally like. No other breed will you hear so mutch BS on to big of hound. I avoid posting things on my plotts because I like mine big with big voice and long ears. It seems that alot of plott guys seem to think that plotts should be small and cur like. I like to be able to look at my dogs. If you like curs get them. My dogs are big but put together right. I have never been out ran by any of your smaller bred plotts. I sometimes ask guys what they think of dollins/pioneer most never tried it or saw them in action. Big NICE plotts are hard to get that why you don' t see them. It real easy to get a small cur like plott. Thats why you see them everywhere. I saw a certain guy say on plott world that he never saw a good big dog (DF). It didn't surprise me it mite as well be called ursus world. Like I said its what you like and what works for you. Nobodys reinventing anything. Wheel man real funny.

I have a dollins and he sure is a big bastard. My favorite dog some days and other days i want to beat him senseless. He turned 1 last september i think, and was at around 25 bear trees and 1 bobber tree. I am real happy with him.

If you want a bloodhound, why not just get a bloodhound?

Who said anything about bloodhound? I think your name say it all. That was a long time ago when they claimed bloodhound got clossed in. Around the time when they say cur got crossed in. I take it your really happy they did that.

salmon river dogs out of idaho were known to be big dogs, im pretty sure theres not much left out there, if any at all, but maybe some one else can tell you more on them. dont know how old fashion your talking about, but if your talking way back to the pre drum era, there are a few old lines around still today, but there not big dogs... jmo

i guess it depends how old of "old fashion" your talking about

Ok back to the topic at hand. If you are looking for old fashion blood, Dollins is it becuase Leo got his dogs from Dale and Dale got his dogs from Von so unless you have pure Von, Leo's still the oldest there are other old bloodlines but as far as old fashion Dollins is it. Also depending on where you get your Dollins blood at there are big and small but the small one still are very houndy looking. Leo dogs from the 90's and earlier they were all big hounds, now days Leo and his grandson's are breeeding just for the dollar now Matt and I have Leo's dogs from early 90's and we are trying to keep it that way.
