Anyone ran a wolverine?

Post by Jorgen »

Had my first wolverine race a few days ago, snow was so bad dogs couldn't put any pressure to it but it was just walking as fast as needed to stay ahead, caught the dogs to save their feet after just one hour. Anyone who has experience with these animals?

Del Camerons book has a story about it. I can't remember any of the important parts of it. Surely somebody else has though.

Bart Lancaster....but then Bart will chase anything with a hound that has hair on it and will put up a good run..
I wonder how many times he chased Callie before she gave...he won't tell me!!!!!
We've talked about it a few times and I have half a notion to take Bart up on his offer to go and run a few this comming winter.
Like with lynx you need the right snow conditions or your going to get your butt handed to you and end up with a few vet bills if the hounds catch it before or IF it trees...

I average about every other year having dogs trash on a wolverine. I've never treed one my races usually result in bloody dogs with slash cuts and hanging skin.

i just read the chapter last night on call of the hounds by del camron talking bout when his dogs trashed on a wolverine. wolverine just wouldn't tree just would stop fight then keep moving. sounded like their long winded. he had to leave the dogs over night in the rockies. one hell of a fighter too. but del camron certainly didn't want to run one ever again.

Thanks guys. We don't have a season here for them so pretty few guys have any experience... Talked to a guy who's moose-dog treed one, it crapped and urinated all over the dog from the tree and that guy sure hopes the dog never tree one again...

In what year was this? I know of one to be seen in the sierra's a long time. One fish and game warden has been following it in years. Maybe you caught that one or another.

6-7 years ago I believe? or more? my old dogs were just pups then. We ran it in the Sierra foothills on the east side.

Wasn't there a fairly recent (a few years) trail cam picture of one that was supposed to have been photographed in the Sierras of California?

Over here the population is increasing rapidly now, and i think we will have a season for them soon to prevent damage on the reindeer's. Sure looking forward to it, another game legal to run is always a big step forward..!

Supposedly, we don't have then here in CO. either. I took this picture a few years ago a couple of miles from my house.
