Really depends on your style of hunting. I prefer toyotas myself. If I never towed a trailer with a sled or atv, I would recommend a 4 cyclinder model over anything else. Otherwise I would say most v6 models will get it done but the mileage different between a v6 or a full size truck is enough I wouldn't mind having the full size.

It depends greatly on the country and type of terrain you are in. I have used both the full sized pickups and the compact ones. The room in my Chevy 4 door is awsome, but there is no way I can get it down some of the rough overgrown roads. I do prefer my extended cab Toyota for the hills. It is much easier to get around and isn't much of an issue to get it out out of a snow drift compared to the bigger trucks. If I am using my smowmobile, I will pull it to the area with my full sized truck. There is no exactly one size fits all, just depends on your situation.

Definitely a Toyota over a Nissan, new or old, the Toys are known as being indestructible. If you get something pre 86 you also have a solid axle up front instead of IFS. A little rougher ride, but a whole lot less hassle and you'll likely never break a thing under it.

I really like the full size chevy trucks from the 90's. They are pretty reliable, parts are cheap and they aren't hard to fix. They also an be picked up for a good price.

this might be a little off topic but one thing i thought of doing was taking an amc eagle, being a 4x4 station wagon, and cropping down the cab and turning the cargo space into a box and then you could have yourself a nice little 4x4 el camino to take into the bush

Go with the Toyota they will go anywhere and parts are easy to find. Nissans are not even close to Toyota's for dependability. I run a toyota crawler and also use a ford flatbed diesel works just fine. The yota has lockers front and rear with dual transfer cases and 5.29 gears. The winch is just for looks.

I run a 90 yota myself and i have had nissan's and would never go down that road again. but one thing that i think people look over is a dodge dakota one of the older ones. My hunting partner ran one of those for years and he is still using it now. Has more room and power than most smaller trucks yet is still small enough to fit through tight spots. An older dakota is something i am seriously going to look into for my next rig.
