I've always carried a Ruger single 6 with 2 cylinders 22 long and 22 mag. I've killed lions, bobcats and coons.

coon/ 22 with a scope in a shoulder holster works wounders
bear/ 380 pocket semi auto & a 44 magg leveraction works good
liom same things
bobcat/12 ga. mag no#5 shot semi auto or a pump works great

I`d recomend themand I don`t carry a gun hunten I carry a longIndianna Johns bowwie knife it will cutin one swip a 4 inch through gurthed soft wood tree !Cours some one eles has a gum and is along they have the plan on harvesting the cridder in season/ I`m just there too observe my dogs/now that I`m done my days in the woods I guess if I still carriend that big sucker too a swims or field trials in its sheith it would be for protection when i go up too the pay-out tables to claim my winnings...hahahaha

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH TERRY 22 AND 22 MAG WILL DO THE JOB IF PLACED CORRECTLY. BUT SOME STATES PROHIBIT THE USE OF RIM FIRE ON BIG GAME, SO A 22-250 OR 223 OR EVEN 25-06 IF YOU WANTED SOMETHING A LITTLE BIGGER, I WOULD RATHER USE A CAMERA BUT IF I WAS GOING TO HARVEST THAT IS WHAT IT IS. SOME OF YOU ARE GETTING A LITTLE OVER KILL ON THE GUN DONT YOU THINK.

I DO WANT TO CLAIFY SOMETHING THOUGH. ALWAYS CARRY AT LEAST A PISTOL OF SOME CALIBE, YOU WILL BE IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING SO DONT GO EMPTY.

In my opinion, they still haven't made a perfect caliber for coon. Every desired caliber seems to tear a little more then needed.

Calkins, I would imagine the 17 Mach II would work good yoo. We have four of them, and love them. you can get em in from nef for about 150 bucks.
