Franks upholstery in redding california. they make a hood rug with built in "D" rings that attaches to the hood and covers the whole hood with quality rug and padding. i believe they run around $250 depending on the vehicle. you can remove them when not in use

I have done it that way before it works good. The only thing I don't like is sometimes your hood can get hot watch your dogs feet.. Good luck and happy hunting.
Re: rigging from hood
dont get the chains to long make sure dogs cant get under tires eye bolts sould be located in the rear close to back of hood i would suggest 2 eye bolts dogs get tangled easily enough with 2 let alone one just keep in mind that the dogs move and dont forget about the safety of your hounds is most important. there was a gentleman that put the eye bolts on the front of the hood and killed both hounds very quickly you got a grat start anymore feel free and happy riggin

Re: rigging from hood
I set my chains to stop short of the edge of the hood about 6 inches.on my toyota the chains are about 12 inches long.
If they're going to run trash, they better run to cath it!!!
Re: rigging from hood
I don't have a rigging hood on my current truck, but what I found it would be best to off center the eye bolt to the driver's side a little bit and keep it more towards the windshield with a short chain. I had mine on the passenger side and the dog would always stand on the drivers side. I think if you switch it a little bit it will want to stand over on the other side. That way it can hold the chain tight and use that to stabilize itself. All dogs are different though in how they want to stand. I had one dog that would put it's nose just above the hood real low and another like to get as far back as he could. The thing I like about a hood mount is watching the dog's reaction to a strike. My one old dog would back up and put his hind feet on the windshield before he'd strike. If I had a rider I'd tell them before we'd strike by saying "oh we should strike something here", right before the dogs would open. I could usually fool people into thinking I knew what I was talking about. At least for a little while anyway.
I only really used it for training in the spring to read dogs. I drive to darn fast when I'm actually hunting going from spot to spot.

Re: rigging from hood
would a harness maybe be a better idea than a collar for this type of setup?
