Okay, you guys who hunt off of them. I have an opportunity to trade for a 2000 ski doo summit 700. Would this be a good sled to lion hunt off of? I'd say most of my hunting is going to be cutting tracks on the sled then going to the truck and getting dogs ect. At least, that's my plan.

In my experience the bigger sleds that are liquid cooled tend to overheat when you are just putting along looking for tracks. When the snow is hard or packed it becomes a big problem. If you end up getting a sled to pull your dogs back to the track you will run into overheating as well if you are not able to keep snow up under the tunnel. I am not saying that it won't work, just remember to watch your temp and go off the trail from time to time keep fresh snow along your rails. The smaller fan cooled engines seem to work better for this type of use. I use a Yamaha Phazer Mountain Lite it been pulling dogs for over ten years now.

I run a 05 skidoo summit 800 for bobcat hunting, as stated above its crap on hard snow. If your in 3 inches or more of soft pow your golden. I need to install some scratchers this year or buy a cheap fan cooled machine. I hunt excatly the way you explain because I can haul some butt for track looking.

+1 to what IDhoundsman said. Bigger sleds are really hard to keep from overheating. I had a pair of kingcats that were no good for lion hunting. You are better off going with a smaller sled or touring style sled that would be a lot easier to turn around or get unstuck.

I would recommend buying a air cooled light sled like a tundra, skandic, ect. The bigger liquid sleds are nice for power and pulling trailers but suck when there is frozen ground with little snow. Also harder to get unstuck if your by yourself.

I bought 2 sleds last year. A2001 rmk600 and a 2000 summit 700. Had such a crappy snow year i didn't even use them. Could get the truck every where i hunt.

So for you guys with sleds...which one would be best to pull the trailer i built for the dogs? I put hitches on both sleds. And do ice scratches actually work? I didn't even think about that part. The trailer weighs about 100lbs and is only built for 2 dogs right now. I can make the box bigger if i get more dogs.

I am not a fan of the summit 700s. Rmks seem to be good and cheap to maintain the 700s especially. As far as towing goes I used a 580 arctic cat the first year with no problems other than mechanical issues. I would love to get a polaris 440 fan cooled... I know where one is at if I can con my sister!

look for fan cooled rmk 550's or something fan cooled

Thanks for the advice. I ended up with a Polaris Indy 440 trail. It was cheaper anyway. Now all we need is snow. My 9 year old was packing his bag as soon as he saw the sled.

What about a 2001 Polaris Edge 600? I know nothing about snowmobiles but have been thinking of getting one. I found one of these for sale for $1750. The odometer reads 3400. Like I say... I'm clueless! Help me out.

i hunt off summit x 670 98 i,m the second hound hunter to own it , put this way the sled has been through hell, towed allot with it no problems. The sled is piped i don't know if that has anything to do with anything or if being a 670 but never over heat wore out 6 set of skis so this sled is what i recommend it has 7000 miles on it. Has far has wheelers are concerned i recommend Suzuki king quad 450 the i will have 4 hounds on the back and never fill tipsy going up steep grades or side hill-in
