birds of prey vs bobcat

has any one ever thought of using a bird with hounds to run bobcat???
Is it possible? Is it legal? Ijust gotta know

You would get too much damage to your bird if you could not get in to make a kill in a couple seconds after the catch. The only thing you could use would be the big eagles which usually cannot get around in the trees/brush real well because of their size. Even with as big as an eagle is they still all weigh less than 20 lbs. I have seen eagles used to take fox and roe deer and supposedly in mongolia they have also flown them on wolves but those guys stay on top of the action and none of those animals have 'hooking' claws either. I can say that at least in California you cannot fly birds on any mammals besides rabbits and squirrels.

Well there levi now yha have it your goen too have too pack up your show take it on the road and over the big pond too Mongollia / they got cat there also (I hear) ? Might be who knows legal, but I`d ask first .
I never seen hawlks or falcon clubsin Ca. back when I lived there many many yrs ago but they had em andMiss Liz would know far better what ya can hunt em on in Ca. than I would.

Yep, in Ca. you can only use them on squirrel, rabbits and game birds. I have several sites saved about hunting in Mongolia with eagles, pretty neat. When I was younger I tried my hand at falconry and it was really something. Them birds are something else, smart, powerful and faaaast.

It would be risky even with a Large Female Golden Eagle. But all and all it could be fun.. You would still need your hounds moving the Cat and it would half to be in a cut over or mildly wood area. I had a Female Harris Hawk that was Imprinted and while Bunny hunting one day a deer jumped about 5 feet from me Well that Harris hawk thought it was fair game and bound to severial times ,, I was sure that was the last of that hawk .. lol

Levi, that is a really fun thought. Man would that be cool to witness.
I think you might have to have a bunch of birds, like bear dogs, though, as I think bobcats are pretty used to eating birds for lunch.

It did make me think of a time when some crows showed me a cat in a tree though. What if a guy could train some crows or jays to "bay" a moving cat, and then train his dogs to honor the crows same as they do other dogs?

You can put a golden eagle scene and a crow scene in the next bobcat hunting sci fi movie. But just for a touch of reality: the bobcat gets away.
