How is there nose and what is their temperment? Does anyone have any more information on this breed? Does anyone have any information on Matthes book The Brave and other stories? Thanks for any information.

Re: Matthes lion hounds
I don't know if you meant to but you posted this in the forum code of conduct and policies section. I think you'd get more hits if it was in the lion or general section. Now, the little I can help you with - Esau's Red was out of the last litter that Steve Matthes raised in Carlotta, Ca. and he was finished hunting at the time of that litter. I don't know the exact cross but do know that he was inbred pretty tight. Dick Muldoon in New Mexico ended up him although I don't know at what age. Red should have been dead for several years now if not more so I assume there was some frozen semen that your pup came from. I hunted with a full litter mate to Red and at least three others that came from Steve from previous litters. I never cared for any of them but everybody likes different things and Red may have been a hell of a dog for all I know. The ones I hunted with had good noses and would open on a cold track o.k. but nothing you would call extra special. They all had good temperments and they were all red colored dogs, shorter eared with light colored eyes, longer hair and had a little bit of cur look to them. As far as the book they are a little hard to get ahold of. A couple people around here have them so I have read it but I don't think they'd part with one. Good luck with your dog.
