Pro Houndsmen?
I hear on tv shows, videos, and articles about people being called pro houndsmen. My question was that are they true pros or people just call them that because their good at what the do?
I hope this makes since.

Re: Pro Houndsmen?
I would think that pro would mean that is there profession.
Re: Pro Houndsmen?
Well, I am one of the worlds best pro. houndsmen. Pro-crastinator. Unless your talking about pro-creation, then I'm all over that.
Seriously, I think horshur is right. A pro. houndsmen would be someone that make's a living with their dogs. I definitly am not that type of pro. John.

Re: Pro Houndsmen?
Depends on how you define "pro"
Pro Houndsmen could mean you support hounds or "favor" hounds & hunters or It could mean you are a professional hound hunter. Either way used in the context shows a support for hounds and hound hunters in a favorable manner!

Re: Pro Houndsmen?
Thanks for all the opinions on this. Where I was coming from with people calling themselves pro houndsmen was, do they mean like NFL pro or like for a specific thing. Though from the answers it looks like since that is their profession and they've done it for quite a while that is why they call themselves pros.
Re: Pro Houndsmen?
Everyone is a pro, just ask.
Re: Pro Houndsmen?
People like to throw around the term pro or professional all the time as if it carries some weight. We all deal with it in many faucets of our life, including doctors, lawyers and engineers trying to impress us with titles.
Eapecially with hounds, I maintain that the only thing to be taken from someone using this term is that they are trying to communicate they make a living hunting hounds.
I would not automattically assume they are any good, successful, competent, ethical, moral, experienced, accomplished, etc., etc.
And who knows how much of a living they make, I could turn pro tomarrow. Ditch the family and responsibilties, live out of the truck, eat varmints and steal gas. (sometimes that does sound kind of fun)

I AGREE WITH PATRICK. ALSO ALOT OF FOLKS IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE LIKE TO IMPRESS OTHERS WITH A TITLE LIKE PRO THIS OR THAT, LIKE THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE REST OF US POOR SLOBS. I ALSO THINK SOME FOLKS LOOK AT THE TERM AS A PERSONAL EGO BOOSTER. THE TERM PRO FOOT BALL OR SPORTS OF OTHER KINDS OF SPORTS ARE JUST THAT IT DENOTES DOING IT FOR CASH. ON THE OTHER HAND DRS. & LAWYERS ARE PROFESSIONALS IN MOST FOLKS MIND WITH YEARS OF SCHOOLING & TRAINING. YOU NEVER HEAR ANY OF THEM USE THE WORD. THEY HAVE THE DEGREE & LICENCE AND THEY DID NOT GET IT AT WALMART. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED A GOOD MAN IS JUST THAT A GOOD MAN. HE DOES NOT NEED THE TITLE, HE HAS EVERYONE'S RESPECT BY HIS ACTIONS NOT HIS SELF PROCLAMATIONS

If you are trying to convince people that you are a pro... you usually are trying to convince yourself. In any walk of life.Dewey

Re: Pro Houndsmen?
Professionals and experts quite often turn out to really be neither...
I do always get a sad laugh when news reporters talk about the 'professional trackers' or 'expert trackers' that come to capture a problem animal, very rarely is the word hound or dog ever used in such stories...I guess they must whisper the animals to within killing range.
