Sled question........

I've got an '87 AC Jag 340 sled [ fan cooled ] that I'm getting ready for hunting this coming winter. I plan on hunting on the logging roads that have typical grades that trucks can negotiate.

Along with my hunting pack and a few tools, I'll have my two dogs and dog crate in tow.....or should I? perhaps build a rack off the back of the sled in which to mount the dog crate?

New to sledding, I have no idea what these sleds are capable of or not, for carrying weight / pulling a toboggan.

These sleds are not "capable" sell it and buy another. They are to short (track), no power, you will sit like a dead crow on it when you ride. If you are looking for a slede to use in hunting situations buy a Lynx Ranger, SKI-DOO Tundra, Summit or a Polaris 550 RMK they will get the job done and they are fan cooled!

Dont carry the weight on the slede it will be hard to handle use a toboggan it will be much easyer to ride the slede and work it, if the snow gets deep.
I have used sleds for over 20 years in my work and during hunts in mountains and deep forests so i now what im talking about.

As far as selling and buying another more powerfull sled........I just got this thing and figure I'll try it on the logging roads this coming winter. Sleds a pretty scarce where I live, and finding anyone of those mentioned would prolly entail a 1000 mile round trip.........

you will do fine with a 340...hell we have been using 250 bravos for years. The short tracks have there advantages also..they turn.
Most of your riding will be just runnin roads lookin anyhow without the dogs...when you have found a likely track to chase the trail has already been broke so it will be easier.
heck we don't have a sled or a rack for the dogs...just run em up.
Or grab hold of one plunck it down in front and hang on..LOL
Years ago had this trashy walker couldn't trust her except on track she weren't very broke to lead but we could drag her to a track pretty good..she got better at leading

We have used 340 Ski Doo Tundras up to my Polaris RMK 550. Lay of the land decides everything along with snow depth. I live right in the Rocky Mountains and we can have anywhere from frozen ground to several feet on our road beds. I currently have 3 set ups a 340 indy lite, a 500 indy trail deluxe and my 550. I live on my 550 once the snow depth is over a foot.
