Leopard hounds?

Post by peachcreek »

I have been reading allot on here about leopard hounds. I hog hunt and currently have some cat hound(trig/july/r walker)/ cur crosses that are doing great. I first started out hog hunting with catahoulas and soon became disappointed in their nose and bottom. I am pretty happy with my dogs now but i have always liked the spotted up pretty dawgs. :) now to my question, i keep reading about the leopard hounds brains... Are really all that much smarter than any other hound? Are leopard hounds usually fast on track? Do they usually run wide open mouthed? I might be interested in giving one a shot here on these east texas hawgs.... Please post any pics you have of a true leopard hound.

I would love to find some leopard stock(big game) from the N.W., They tend to be more of a heads-up winder but will run w/ nose down when needed. Great locate dogs for sure. The 2 that i had were great dogs. Very smart.

From what I hear, Nick Riley from up around Seeley has some nice Leopards...delivered a pup for him a couple years back and she seemed smart as a whip. He's on the site here.

Give Randy Oller a call. He is a great guy that loves talking hounds. He should be able to answer your questions first hand.

It's the same with Leopards, there are a few lines that do it like the stories. When you get a good one you'll know why people wrote those stories.
