MN out of state bear licence?

Post by wiblueboy »

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get an out of state bear kill tag in MN. I'm 21 and live in WI and have been sending in for my WI kill tag for 6 years but where I hunt it takes almost 10 so I was thinking about hunting in MN if it only takes a year or 2. Shooting a bear over hounds has been a dream of mine since I was 12. Thanks, Alex

Dunno how long it takes for a non-resident in MN but you can't run hounds on bear over there. Resident or Non.

MI might be worth a look for ya, I'm just not sure on the non-resident rules.

Some areas it's over the counter, other areas draw. Some years you get drawn first year, most times no more then two.

Like was said above, if you want to shoot one over hounds, MN is not the place being they don't allow bear hunting with hounds. I just shot my first bear this year on the 10th of Sept. here in Wis after sending in for 9 years. Well worth the wait as I got to shoot it on the ground fighting the dogs and also got my hounds in on a bunch of other kills during the 12 days I was up there.

Yep, MN is a no-go for using hounds. You can get an over the counter or draw one either every year or every other year.

If you want to do a hound one quicker, MI has better draw odds especially for the later season. Be prepared to hunt big sections, wolves and other hunters though. The size of bear seemed to be fairly small when I was up there but we only went at it for a 2 4 day periods. The reg stations seemed to have a bunch of small bear and a few decent ones mixed in. This was 8 years ago now though, not sure what it's like now.
