question
i got a almost 5 month old male pup that comes from good bobcat and coon parents hunted with both but he just seems sluggish and just wanting attention from me i moved out in wyoming the first of august and i live with my buddy who has the mom and brother to my pup and the brother is off the wall will tree run track with mom but my pup just stays by me and shows not a ton of intrest in anything been trying to find coon out here but is very hard where i live and i get him to the woods day and night with his mom and brother as much as possible but really havent seen him do anything but jump on me just curious on ppls thoughts if this could be an early sign. i kno he is still very young but the pups i have had previously were off the walls wanted to run with other dogs but he shows no sign of wanting to run with mom and brother just takes his pace and sticks close and just wants to jump on me also all the other pups off this liter are running with other dogs for some extent fighting and treeing the house cats from the reports of ppl who have pups off this cross and love them

Re: question
At 5 mos. he's just to young to call a cull.More than once i've seen the slowest starting pup in a litter make the best dog of the bunch.A lot of houndmen want their pups treeing game at 6 mos. old but that rarely happens in the real world .I use to be one of them but nowadays i won't even start a pup until they're 7 mos. old. You don't have to do it my way but i would give him more time .
Re: question
My better male didnt have any interest until 7 months or so. Once he did he didn't do much even then... just ran with the dogs. Then the switched flipped... now he's a great dog.

Re: question
thanks for the replies i ant terribly worried cuz i kno he is young pup still once he is more older like year then ill start to worry lol
Re: question
i had a similar problem as you, had a pup that would run by itself at 5 months old and was really coming along good.. She got killed and i got one of her litter mates at about seven months and showed absolutely no interest even when dogs had game caught and then all of a sudden one day the switch flipped and she started, ran, and caught a coyote by herself and been coming along good ever since. just give it more time
