My best two cat dogs were both males and my preference is to hunt males. They seem to be tougher ,hunt harder and are more aggressive in their desire to catch game plus they don't come in heat .Now having said that i'll also tell you a good female is worth her weight in gold !Over the years i've hunted both males and females .I've never yet had a female that was as good as my best males but a couple sure came close.I think they're a little easier to train but my hardest headed dogs have been females .Another good thing about females is that they come in heat. What I meen by that is if you plan to keep hunting in the future you can raise your own pups and it's usually easier to find a good male to breed to than it is to find a good female.I like hunting just one dog but you have to keep something coming on or you'll be out of business if something happens and that's why i think a good female is worth a small fortune!

I would have to say my best dogs are females but i do have a couple males up and coming that are really impressive.
If you are going to have one female you may as well have more just because being in heat is a pain. At least then you can hunt you females and leave the males at home.

I don't think there really is a difference in grit, my grittiest dog is a female. It does not take much of a dog to catch lions and every dog i owned figures it can whip a lion so grit really is not important in lion hunting. Bear hunting is a different story.

my best dogs for years have been females. now that they are getting old my best dogs are males that came as pups from those females. the females seem to be more loyal and eager to please you. faster starting and less dog fighting. but I keep a 50/50 number of males and females. when the females are in heat I leave em home. I really don't think male of female has anything to do with having good dogs.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.
