Had a great race!!

Post by Flip »

Early this morning I ran a grey for just at one hour and caught him on the ground. They had me dancing in the road just before they caught him. The dogs were barking so hard I felt like I was at the World Series of fox hunts. This was a fast race from the start.a guy can't get enough of those kind of races. After that I got after a cat ran not trail ran him for 45 min. then just vanished dogs looked for an hour but it was like he fell off the face of the earth wow couldn't believe it. No it wasn't in a tree cause there hardly is any trees Where i was.All I can blame is its very dry here and havent had any rain yet this winter but that's an excuse. They never loose a varmint onece they get it stinking.im puzzled but it happens to the best of them . All loose a few hours of sleep thinking about it.then go back for him tomarrow !!

Flip,

That Cat used the Ole "Beam Me up Scotty" trick. Bobcats are born knowing how to use this trick and will use it unless the batteries are dead in their "Communicators"!

Flip, thanks for sharing the hunt. You are not the first to have a cat race end like that & won/t be the last. In my experience have seen that happen to every pack, ever hunted with, mine as well as all others packs. A very respected hunter in this area told me people who say that never happens to their dogs, insults his intelligence about hounds & cats in this area. Al

was after 1 one morn and had been after him probably 2 hrs, he had been using a ditch to come down , one the paper co dug to drain a flat pond, he was going in there circling coming back to the road and crossing, the road was real bad couldn't drive it, I watched him cross it a few times standing from a distance, I walked up there and heard them turn he was coming, I watched him run straight to me, he seen me abt 5 ft from him wasn't a thick place at all, where he went I have no clue, never seen him leave , didn't go up or in anything just like he disappeared , dogs didn't know where he went either hunted him there prob, and hr after never found him !!! strange ! had another 1 me and a buudy were hunting been after this one for quite a while, cat went in a clear cut and he was 30 ft from us clearing was prob a year sence they cut the wood off it, he ran in there with us watching him it was just like he disappeared, dogs never ran him another step, had one one night come down the road to me had him blinded with the light, he ran the road probably a hundred yards coming towards me with the light in his eyes , he came like 2 feet of me till he figured something was behind the light, I have never seen anything do something as fast as he did what he did, he jumped to the other side the road and then the other did this abt 5 time and was gone, they blistered his hiney after I got them back on it came out with cat hair between there teeth, I believe they have a huge bag of tricks

went one night was trotting dogs down the road , there was a sharp curve in the road, dogs left the road screaming, cat musta been on one side with them and me on the other, they ran him like they was tied to him , finally after a few hrs of running him he had had enuf, I had prob 7 if I remember right , they fought him for a while and couldn't do anything with him he was huge lookin at his track in the road, well finally after a while of fighting him they started coming out, loaded all but 1 she jumped on the tailgate and turned and went back in the cat hadn't left, he ate her up got up on her back and caught her behind the head and bit huge holes in her neck , musta tried to kill her, she hollered and hollered finally came back out and would never catch another 1 when the race stoped she came to the road haha, abt 2 nights later was in the same place where I struck him few nights before found him again , they went to running him and a buddy was with me , called him and he came on, we had 22 head after him driving him abt an hr into it he started coming to the road, up and down it he would go and would go between us , and run past the trucks, he did this abt 3 or 4 times I told Charles , he gona go under it , and finally he did, this is no lie, all the dogs went by him , couldn't find him down the road so they came back went the other way couldn't find him with me shinning the light on him , finally had 1 old gyp smell him under there and crawled under with him, it was 1 more fight under the truck for a min till all the rest came under there to, he had to go and they caught him abt 50 feet off the road, huge male cat for south ga standards almost as big as the dogs and twice as mean, between alligators and rattlesnakes, here aint no telling whats going to take place when it starts to get hot here, with alligators being by far the worst, they will clean u out, and this place is full of them

Southern Fox,

Welcome aboard!

Folks, for years I have been telling you all about the NICE Fox and Cat Hounds raised by a Small group of Level 4 Hunters/Houndsmen from NE Georgia. Southern Fox is a member of this very Elite Group.....we are PRIVILAGED to have him join us here on BGH!

Mr. Brian please be sure and tell us about how those Liquor Bred Hounds that y'all raise can Cold Trail.

You have some good stories to tell about Mr. Glen and Mr. Jr., the two Charles, and the GOOD Hounds you have had. Fox Section-Bobcat Section it does not matter, just tell us about them!

Also tell about how some of those Hound (pure running Hound) can tree. The John Sister that Mr. Glen sold to Mr. McClain did not care how tall the Tree was, she would find him! We do not buy Hounds but I caused Dad to nearly swallow his Red Man chew with how much I offered Mr. McClain, but he would not sell her....I did not blame him as those kind are almost impossible to find at any Price. She could Strike, Cold Trail, Jump, run the Hair off herself and the Cat, Then Tree like a Cur Dog....if there has ever been a ONE Hound, here in the South & South East, to consistently Catch Bobcats by itself she may have been it!

Again it is Great to have you here with us on BGH!

Good stories southern fox thanks for sharing . i Treed 2 fox last night neither race lasted much over 30 min. It's so dry here that the dogs have to run closer to to fox to hang on to him and that puts more pressure on him making for a shorter race. Spent a hour on one trying to get up under him and make him stink good dog work though. Dogs free casted hard and did a good job. My dogs trail good but don't bark a lot trailing. I didn't think they were going to get him at one point but they proved me wrong.pup did good

i hunted with john quite abit he was a nice hound, hunted with his mama also al tootle owned her, she was a pretty nice hound, tootles pearl, her being off carlies bill and tyres white kitty , kitty was off one of my old gyps sassy , her having a million dollar mouth could be oicked out of 30 head big pulling squall, man told me she drew it up from the butt, but he didn't say butt, so the gyp u was talkinn abt she came from good stuff, all the dogs she went back on were nice hounds , nose all the way thru them all, as for stories abt cat and fox i have quite a few to tell, a lot of running, little bit of catching, and some wired stuff, with 1 being life threatening, involving an alligator, lots of alligators, i despise those dog eaters, and i kill everyone i can they will clean u out, had a lot of crazy things happen also , like 1 night me and Charles smith was hunting had been running a fox, dogs split and was running to , one bunch went in another club i went after them , went in the gate and locked it back pulled down the road, dogs wasn't far, actually right out the window, i stoped and got out, i hollered them down, and a few came out , well i got to hearing a sound, pop pop aint never heard that before, then again pop pop i shined the light in the ditch didn't see anything, then again pop pop, i said what is that, then again pop pop then could here it getting faster, pop pop pop on and on getting louder and louder, it was coming down the road at me really moving getting louder and louder, i shined the light down the road and it was a horse running as hard as he could , i didn't know what it was for a min all i could see was head and main , i jumped behind the truck, and musta blinded him with the light cause he ran into the gate wide open, bent the gate up and tore loose and left, there is no house within 5 miles of where we were, he was really lost, and wild, scared the crap outa me for a min haha, got on a big alligator inn the dark walked over him in a fire break going to dogs catching a cat, thought it was a log, stoped and was standing inches from his mouth with no light on just a tracker , they had done killed the cat i was trying to find the cat, and walked over him in the dark with no light on, 11 foot i bet i jumped 10 foot flat footed, lost all my stuff, then didn't have a gun bet i found 1 in a hurry

I think the worst is alligators, have lost a few to them over the years, being if it wasn't for trackin collars wouldn't have known where they went, but I always get my collars back and I always get the gator, I will not stop till I get him! had a private land owner here I know real good gave me permission to hunt his land he owns a lot of it on the river, I knew it was infested with gators, but couldn't stand it had bobcats on it that had never had a dog behind them so I couldn't stand it had to go it was hot abt a month before deer season came in and I was going pretty regular, had a guy that wanted to go with me so we went one night, found a big cat where he crossed the road, dogs took him on and got him to running, they was going closer and closer to a big slew that ran off the river so we started around there, when we got over there I could tell it was getting close cause it was a sight race then they started catching him, we started in it wasn't thick so we had no problem getting to them had him caught on the bank of the slew, I shined the light out there and it lit like a Christmas tree eyes everywhere, told my buddy we got to get them and get away from here, well they was fighting the cat right at the bank my buddy gets down there close to the water, and in the excitement lets a gator get right on him and the thing grabed him by the back of the leg, only thing that saved his leg was it didn't roll, he is a big man and that helped also cause it couldn't drag him back, he was hollering , I didn't know what had him thought the cat had him, when I shined the light I knew , I had one of those big mag lites 6 cell I brained the gator in the head and he turned him loose, took 18 stitches for the holes, and a pile of antibiotics for weeks, we went back later on when he could go and got 7 out of the slew biggiest 1 abt 8 ft , months later after it warmed up some buddies were hog hunting in the same vicinity, and was catching a hog there and 1 got a dog, they went back the next morn to get the collar and started dragin the bottom for it and the gator came up when they caught hold of what was left of the dog, they killed it, I saw the pict, took 3 people to tote it out on a pole, the head that is, looked like it was abt to drag the ground, huge gator, they pulled a tape on the whole body, said it measured 15,3 inches, not sure if it was that big , cause I wasn't there, but if the body fit the head it had to have been close looked like a dinosaur , was hunting one night it got bad foggy, was going to pick up at the end of the road, if I didn't strike and go home, it was close to midnite, and was coming up on the end of the road and got to seeing something shine a little like a reflector shining, I eased on up and it was a motorcycle, I had 13 head infront the truck , and was easing on up wondering what a motorcycle was doing here, cause where I hunt big big woods, probably close to 300, thousand acres, anyway eased on up and could smell smoke, well the dogs were all over something with there noses smelling something just glued to it on the othere side the motorcycle, I eased on up a little and there was a black guy covered up sleeping with his head out from under some boxes he found they plant trees in and had a little fire built, bad foggy couldn't see 30 ft , well one of those dogs must have stuck there cold nose to his face cause he came up from there like a wild man , and had a screwdriver screaming, I stomped the gas on the truck, cause didn't know what was fixing to take place, he hollered please help me im lost, I told him to put down the screwdriver and I would back back down there, he slung it in the woods quickly, told me they some thangs in these woods this the scariest place he ever been ,took me 30 min to get the dogs in the truck, they scattered like quail, if I would have know he was there, could have made him turn white hahahaha, sliped up there and got a rope around his feet coulda got him cross the ditch before he woke up cause he was doing some sleepin, hahahah he left motorcycle and all right there telephone has no signal there so I carried him back to where it did, that was something .

Alligators are the worst down here too, I've lost two good hounds to gators sense I've had tracking collars which is about six years. Don't know how many lost hounds gators got befor then however these two are the only ones ive lost sense ive had the collars so gators probably got a lot more than i ever thought they did. Have never had one of mine snakebit but have seen a couple of other people's hounds that got bit while in the same race as mine. I did step right over a four and half foot rattlesnake while deer hunting this year though.
