First time for everything!
First time for everything!
Killed my first cat in the state of Wyoming yesterday. I have two male Cameron Blueticks that I started from just when they were pups and one female Jeff Allen dog that I started from a pup. Im only sixteen years old and very interested in the hound industry. In the past week I have treed two different cats with these pups. The first cat I killed was a two mile chase into the rocks. The cat weighed 145 pounds and was a 8 year old female. The second cat we treed was somewhere around 125 pound female. My dad is still holding a tag so for one we can have these pups on a few more lions and for two we can wait for that big mature tom cat. I hope everyone is having the same luck we are having, good luck and good hunting. I will try and post some of the pics from the hunt.
Blueticks and Plotts always look best at the end of the chase!

I wouldn't I think killing females is wrong. Good job on getting your dogs going. Not to take anything away from you. Takes alot to start pups and get them going with no old dogs to help.

Re: First time for everything!
I think you missed my point BC....I was indicating that I've never seen a female go 145, nor have I ever heard of one. Experience will teach this lad that....I dont believe in killing females either. However as you said, good job to you wyokid for your first capture...its one you will never forget. Now that you've got your first one under your belt, join the rest of us that know lion are hard to find and let them females go to produce more for us and our sport. pictures are just as good as a paw draped over the box....go after them kitten killin toms....they make better mounts, and that's what gets you your respect as a true HOUNDSMAN...not dubbing yourself as a lion hunter....there's a big difference buddy.

145# Female
great job on treeing your first and second cat! You just made it twice as hard to find the next track.
Re: First time for everything!
Good job kid and don't get discouraged from posting on here just be careful guessing the weight on lions. You're young and you'll learn, just know that killing females is not good for the sport, leave that to clients paying to come out west to kill them a cat so they can tell their office buddies they're a lion hunter. Keep doing what you're doing sounds like you're doing a good job with your pups. Take pictures not shots so you can follow your dogs around some more. I'm young and still learning too just make sure there's plenty of lions for us to chase in the future!

Wow, killing females? If you want to continue chasing lions killing females will not help. You are killing the reproduction.

Don't let these guys get you down or upset you. They all did the same thing once before. They were given a hard time about it then and now they think its there turn to do the picken. Kill what you want do what you want you will learn. good job.
Hunt hard cull hard !
Re: First time for everything!
I totally was thinking just what justahunter said!! Congrates on your kills and be proud of what you caught. Females need harvested too. I dont care who you are we have all killed a female in are lives. Quit knocking a young guy down who is extremely excited and is having fun. Are state next year is cutting the Tom quota in half and raising the female quota so we will see who has to shoot a female to keep there egos up.

Great work! I am impressed 16 years old and you have the drive to be a houndsmen. I agree your weight on these lions may be off a little but hell we can all tell stories. Don't take it personal that these other guys are giving you a hard time. My first lion was a female. Females need harvested in some areas as well. Too bad these other guys are trying to bring you down they are probably jealous of your success. GOOD JOB!!!!!

Re: First time for everything!
Great job just like bigblue said. You have done nothing wrong taking a female for your first cat. Most the guys that are giving you shit probably havent caught a cat yet lol. For 16 yrs old that is pretty damn good to raise 3 pups and have them catching lions.Andy
The home of TOPPER AGAIN bred biggame hounds.
Re: First time for everything!
Thanks for all the complements and courage I agree we need to kill more Toms instead of the females but I was just getting the first one out of the way and it was the pups first cat. She was nine years old and had a hernia so her time was almost up. I would post a pic but can't figure it out.
