Fuel Mileage

Post by az_gogetem »

Since there doesn't seem to be a section to put this in I'll put it here.

What are most of you guys hunting out of these days? And what kind of fuel mileage are you getting?
What are you doing to help deal with the ever rising price of gas?
We haul a ranger out to where we hunt and park the truck. Cover a lot more ground that way and probably get a little better mileage than the truck. My partner just chipped his truck and put his stock tires back on it along with a cold air intake and he's getting 22 mpg out of his cummins vs 15 before the extras.

I'm looking at a toyota or a nissan mainly cause diesel is so much more than gas. My hunting truck is a lifted 96 dodge with a 360 and big ol knobby 38's and it's killing my gas mileage I get 12mpg. This truck has about 250,000 miles on it though and headon-ed a pine tree during bear season last year(ice....). So it's ready to be retired.

Wondering what works for everybody else. Too bad I can't put the dogs on the motorcycle! i get 45 mpg out of that sucker

I bought an 84 toyota for $1500 to hunt out of and drive to work this was when diesal was $4.00 a gallo.I get 20 mpg out of the toyota and 18 out of the dodge.Figure the toyota will pay for itself in less than a year. Also hunt off our quads quite a bit this saves a lot.

I own a 2004 duramax deisel 4 door, but I hunt out of a 1998 gmc xtented cab pickup, It gets 20 miles too the gallon, it has a 327 engine with a 5 speed manuel transmission. . . . its setup sweet for hunting. It has more room than a toyota, bin there done that, o did I mention its AMERICAN made, and that means alot to me. . .

I dont get to do much hunting during the summer cuz we cant run bears so I can't really compare apples to apples when I say that I get between 15 to 18 with my Toyota Tacoma, because its all in 4WD and working hard in the snow.

As far as my pickup Made here in the U.S. - nah that doesn't matter that much to me anymore- one reason why is where are we coming to these days, with oil prices where they are and everything else- the SAD thing is we could be helping things a lot if it weren't for the enviromentalists and all the other people that don't want us to use our own resourses and supply our own oil :x

bearhunter thats another truck I'm looking at. How does it do in 4 wheel drive? My only concern with the colorados I've seen is the clearance.

Adrich, Yes I did special forces I might add, and if I was anywhere near Idaho I would show you how pathetic I am. Knowing you, you were probably a dishwasher... As far as toyotas go my truck would go toe to toe with it. I didnt reply to this gas mileage post to have an idiotic comment from a guy like you, I just made a comment on what had a little bit more room. I didn't put down toyotas or what everyone else likes to drive. Thats why we live in a free country with a freedom of choice.

Hunting truck

Post by Bticked »

Both my hunting trucks are toyotas. One is custom built with a v6 that does ok but isnt too dog friendly right now. Ive been driving my tundra and its been great. I get 18-19 city(driving gingerly) and about 21-22 highway. It has plenty of room with the access cab and plenty of power with the v8. Hope I could help.

well i either drive the sunfire, Heavy Chevy, 4 wheeler or foot it lol. i own the sunfire and the atv but dad owns the truck, the truck is a hog on gas, its the 6 litre, the sunfire is great on gas but its just a bucket and i can only get 2 dogs in it lmfao and the 4 wheeler, i like it but dont use it too much because it stays at my grampas, and i usually just park somewhere, take the dogs and walk the rest of the way, in the winter i use a snowmobile. I heard that the colorado's and canyons arent that much better on gas then a full size. I would love to get a sonoma all jacked up or a canyon but i have other expenses right now so il deal with the sunfire lol, i usually hunt iwth my best friend and he has a new GMC all done up, he doesnt like to take it too far into the bush because he just payed through the nose for it, but it seems to get around 20 MPG on it, hes going to get a tuner and improve that, its actually quite a change when you put a tuner on it and program it for mileage i hear.

Rockman you forgot to add that at the end of your post you said Oh did I mention my truck is AMERICAN made and this means alot to me...Well I took this as a personal attack on the toyota I bought and my loyalty to this country.Looks like I am not the only one that gets fired up.Anyhow I've got dishes to do so feel free to pm me If you would like to see how pathetic the bear hunting is here in Idaho.
