I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Well hell. I hope it works out a bit easier on you brett then what it's seeming to.maybe someone will come up with some helpful ideas. I can't say what content might appeal to folks the most. Social media seems a boon and curse.

Re: Something I'm trying to do..
Did you watch the video Pegleg? I have lots of support but its kinda funny where that support comes from lol .. Like I did say in the video it doesn't really matter because I believe it's for a good cause and will do it anyway... it just takes time.
Social media, Facebook, Instagram, twitter, snapchat, youtube .. they are the platforms of the future. These types of forums are dieing a slow death.

Yeah I did. I don't know it's nearly impossible to share information on most of those platform's. I suspect anything challenging will have to be provided by a different method.

Maybe that came across wrong. Just saying trying to teach someone something in little bits and pieces is difficult. A lot of people believe all they need is a little video or two sentence post to learn how somethings done. Maybe it's enough once they understand the process of learning in the first place. But having dealt with it and the loss of information it leads to. I can see people need a bit more input.
Your videos provide more info and background which I enjoy but the hashtag crowd might find to lengthy and involved. However things might be, I do hope your able to get these done.

Re: Something I'm trying to do..
Have you thought of putting all this into a book?
Just thinking since you have unlimited money and nothing else to do, why not put some pictures or stills taken from footage, and maybe old pictures these men might let you use along with ramblings and transcripts of your interviews into a book?
If you do, put me on the list for a signed copy. I would even pay for it in advance.
Get ahead of all this new technology. Books are the media of the future.
(Maybe Bruce's widow would allow you to transcribe his work also?)

Re: Something I'm trying to do..
lol .. sure wealthy with nothing but time on my hands ... but really eventually a book with pictures and a bio from the hunters is sure a good idea.. now if I could just think of an established author that could help that would be great.. And as far a Bruce's widow I think the videos were of not much concern to her and really she didn't want to be bothered with it .. from what I could tell from talking to her ..

Just do it! I did mine on word document, and I am sure there is something better out there made just for writing a book on. Word was a pain, but it worked eventually. I lost the book twice and it took me seven years to get it done, and I never wanted to see another bobcat or dog the rest of my life. And the fact is, I have never been back on word document since, and hope I never have to. So it is Awesome.
Just make a plan for the over all vision, chapter ideas, divisions etc. make a folder for each chapter and start writing in each chapter. You already have the book, you just need to put it together. You need a scanner for the old photos, if you don't already have one. Take it with you, plug it in, and scan photos there at the home of who ever you are interviewing. They might let you borrow the photos to take with you, but If you can just scan them there they won't be worried about getting them back.
If you interview them briefly on each photo you are using, you will probably get some stories that wouldn't have come up otherwise.
Make a daily or hourly habit of Saving everything you do to a thumb drive or something separate from your computer.
Just try to do a little each day instead of waiting for big blocks of time. Just a minimum of 7 minutes a day will get you going. So what if it takes weeks, months, years, or decades. 7 minutes a day. Just do it.
I didn't do this, but I am sure you could dictate to a computer these days and it will type it out for you. You probably could do the same with your recorded interviews.

Re: Something I'm trying to do..
Brett
Thanks for what you're doing, I was sitting around last night and got on line here, something I left behind after the first of the year. I want to say and add, possibly shed a little light on what your doing and at some point in time down the road, you will be appreciated and even possibly rewarded for all your hard work and efforts. For those of you that don't know about some of Brett's interviews pertaining to the Lee Brothers hunting in old Mexico for Jaguars, lots of valuable information has surfaced of historical significance.
Through a man by the name of Wayne Smith who had hounds and rode with me for decades hound hunting, introduced me to George Pavey and with the assistance from some post here on BGH, I had a man named Dennis Carson call me out of the blue and made the claim he was in Mexico with the Lee's, in fact Dennis had even rode from Tucson Az. down to Mexico with George, I had a nice conversation with Mr. Carson and his accounts differ from that of George.
I'm torn with a friendship and letting this history go to the grave with these remaining men and wanting to document history as it really happened during this era. As most would guess, these guys were dirty rugged tough mountain men and slept under the stars like animals, so the portrayals are sometimes clouded verses what actually transpired in the field. After I made a decision to contact Brett, I immediately captured Brett's interest in documenting Dennis' story. Brett drove to Tucson and interviewed Mr. Carson. Dennis is quite clear in his recollection of the past and had totally conflicting accounts of what all happened in Mexico.
Enter Charlie Suttles or so was the alias name used until the real gentleman by the name of Charlie Settles was located living in Tennessee, also thanks to assistance here with having BGH. So Brett loads his gear and drives from New Mexico all the way to Tennessee to interview an elderly Mr. Settles, Charlie confirms and supports a lot of the stories consistent with Dennis & George.
Pay attention to this part folks!......Something went drastically wrong in Mexico between George, the camp cook who was kind of a drunk and a Mexican hand and Dale Lee..... I'm not going to go any farther and let Brett handle the rest, after all, Brett has spent thousands of dollars chasing these interviews.....Interviews worthy of capturing not just a story but what really transpired in Mexico, long, long ago!
I will be in Contact and discuss this with George, I own the man this much, like I eluded to earlier, to me? I want to hear the stories about the senoritas and what happened behind the scenes and not some fairytale about hounds and Jaguars, like Sgt. Joe Friday, nothing but the facts and let the cards fall where they may.....60-70 years has passed and time is running out!
Stop and look at the bigger picture of previous interviews with Warner Glenn and his daughter Kelly and many others like Wiley Carroll to mention a few, as these famous houndsmen pass on, they take this historical information and hound hunting accounts to the grave with them. Too my way of thinking, it's a crying shame to allow this to happen, so thanks again Brett for what you are trying to accomplish.

Re: Something I'm trying to do..
Thanks Mike...
I guess the missing link is Mr Pavey and I have been trying to call him. Not sure what will be included in the these interviews but I will follow their wishes.
There are still others that I want to share their story. Humble guys that have devoted their life to hunting.
Maybe one of these days there could be a book written.. but for now its video ..it's what I do. The younger generation understand and they are the future.. I'm 55 but I see it..

That's not much of a list. I'm sure you can knock it out over the summer Brett.
Re: Something I'm trying to do..
Just a day before you posted here I was looking on ETHD for the thread that had the David Hife youtube video but did not find it.
I have been reading Dave Deans articles in Full Cry, he is now 83 years old and has proven over and over the exceptional dog man that he is and he has gone against the grain many times and many nay sayers have been proven wrong. Dave has proven to be a great breeder of blueticks and produced many champions...also he has proven he can train a dog to win besides breeding top dogs...and at 83 he is a good writer as well.
