Post by Goose »

For those of you who may live or hunt in the southeastern US, primarily southeast La, there’s a severe case of distemper going through the coons, there have been quite a few confirmed cases, I had to go out down two coons a friend of mine had raised...

I’ve talked to quite a few folks around here and there’s has been an unusually high number of coons just doing odd and erratic behaviors that aren’t common...

Killed 2 coons in Va back in December while deer hunting that I believe had distemper according to symptoms. And boy I hunt with found 1 grown grey fox dead that appeared to have had thebsame symptoms.

I do most of my dog running in South east Louisiana just north of lake Ponchatrain and southeast of Baton Rouge. Havnt seen any coon that looked sick lately but we have had a lot of distemper in the past. Doesn't hurt the population any we still have an abundant supply.

I’m just east of you, I live north of bogalusa, right up in the corner where Ms is my border on the north and east, no it won’t hurt the population a bit, we actually have to many and not enough hunters and trappers, this is just mother nature’s way of keeping them in check, is this strain of distemper transferable to dogs...
