Just wondering the thinking on these diets:
Brand A: Chicken by-product meal, whole grain ground corn, wheat flour, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), beet pulp, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, salmon oil (source of DHA), fish meal, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid
This manufacture lists not less than 31% protein per serving
-v- this:
Brand B: Chicken, Chicken By-Product Meal, Corn Meal, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Corn Grits, Brewers Rice, Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Fish Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Chicken Meal, Fish Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dried Egg Product, Brewers Dried Yeast, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), DL-Methionine, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Rosemary Extract
This manufacture lists not less than 26% protein per serving
I actually use brand A listed with the 31% protein but Im considering switching because of the source of the protein means more than the quanity per serving. Just seeing what everyone else thinks about the first ingredients chicken -v- chicken by products
thanks all, Robb

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God - 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV)

Sold a little dog food.
Hoof, Hair, Horn, Feathers.
They all raise the protein level.
None are digestable by a dog.
What is in the by product meal?

I think I like brand A.They both have chicken-by-product as the #1 ingredient.I know that B says chicken as #1 but the ingredients are listed by weight.Once the moisture is removed from that chicken during process it will become more like the fourth or fifth ingredient based on weight.Deceptive labeling.I also think that mineral protienates are chelated forms of minerals that are more digestible for the dog.Protien can be hard on kidneys but generally only if it is a poor, low quality source of protien that is not highly digestible like corn gluten meal which is 60% protien.Meat sources of protien are by far the best.Make sure to provide plenty of water for your dogs when feeding high protien.
