Re: Biggest lion you caught
The biggest I've seen/caught was 218 on a depredation hunt in CA. about 15 years ago. This deal really turned me off on DFG in CA. I caught this lion and the DFG guy shot it. He took the skull and left the rest to rot. I told him I'd be glad to skin it out and he could take the hide with him. I told him it was the biggest lion he would ever see in his life. He didn't want anything to do with it. What a waste. That was the last lion I caught for them. I've caught a few others that were in the 180-200 range but none as big as the 218.
There is one running around here in CO. that will be over 200 if I could just find him during the season.

Re: Biggest lion you caught
FH, Depredation lions are not officially weighed in CA. I know, I caught plenty of them for CA. My buddy is still catching lions in CA. for the state. We never wieghed any of them. This cat was killed on a deer hunting property above King City and we wieghed it on the deer scale they had at the ranch. Only reason we wieghed it is because we knew it was a giant and there was a scale handy. I would suspect that there are many more lions in CA that will go over 200. They have everything they need there, pleny of food and protection.

So where are the photos of these toads? Ol' Big Mike maned up now let's see the rest of them. Come on guys, give'em up!
And that tom was a toad Big Mike, thanks for sharing.......
I've killed a few lions right at eight feet nose to tail that scored just under and just over 15 inches, but have weighed none of those cats. We did weigh the first tom I found and helped run down back in about 1987, and he was right at 160 pounds and scored just over 14 3/4". Most of what I have had to slam for hunters are those 14 to 14 7/16" toms that measure 7 to 7 1/2 feet long and weigh 140 or 150 pounds, and those are good lions. When they tape on the upper end of seven foot and score over 14 1/2" inches a hunter has done well. I've also walked away from a few toms, while hunting alone, and having a tag in my pocket, that may well have been the largest lions that I have treed. And had I had company along those lions might have died...........

another nice young tom that stretched out pretty well....
I wrote that little piece for American Hunter magazine a few years back when I was into promoting our sport, then Craig Boddington aced it out with a story on "Big Cats of the World." The editors for NRA never did see this piece, but since I had already written it I sold it Rocky Mountain Game and Fish for publications. Sometime later, Buckshot ask me if he could use it on his webpage and I told him sure thing. The article was my humble effort to show other hunters outside our sport what makes hounds and lion hunting special, and some of the ways and feelings we have for our sport and the creatures in it.
