Bear we treed yesterday
Loaded up the mules and hounds yesterday and made a circle. Lead off into a steep oak brushy canyon, dogs started a track. Moved it slow for a bit then two young dogs started moving it pretty good. This kinda concerned me since the old dogs werent talkn. Trailed down to a spring and there was a pile of fresh elk tracks and a decent size bear track. By this time the old dogs were go'n good, still a little concerned that the young'n were leading the way and had talk the old ones into an elk race. Dogs trailed up an over out of the canyon. We rode to the bottom and could hear them treeing in a side canyon. Elk had made some good trails so we could ride up to a few hundred yards of the tree. We were in a big oak thicket with no big trees that bears ussaully like. Made me wonder what they had caught? Got to tree and they had a decent boar up in an oak. The oak was only about 15ft tall, the limbs could hardly support his weight. Never had a bear tree in a small tree like that before. Made for some good pup tree practice as he was just out of there reach. Pulled the dogs off, bear came right out, one pup got loose after the bear. Had to turned them all loose again. Bear cooperated and ran down hill bout a 1/2 mile and treed in a big pine in a side canyon. Rode right up to that tree. Good day except one dog punctured his side pretty good. Looked like he fell on a stob while treeing made a pretty nasty 2" hole to where you could see the muscular diaphram. Good thing the vet is my neighbor. Dog is doing fine with a few stiches.

Re: Bear we treed yesterday
Not trying to start a fight or anything but that tree that them dogs are treeing on is alot small than the one that that bear is in...jmo
Re: Bear we treed yesterday
Thats because the bigger tree is in front that the bear is in, you have to look really close now rockringwalker. And by the way wheres your pictures?

Correct bency. There is actually 3 of those oak brush trees were close to the same size, the trunk in back looks a little bigger. Think the bear was standing on the limbs of the middle tree
