Re: Lion hunting dads
I took some my youngest son out on his seventh birthday for a late night coon hunt. My male got out on a frozen stretch of river near some open water and scared the crap out of me. My son was almost in tears thinking the dog was going to fall in and drown. He hasn’t been out since and doesn’t want ...

.22 LR for Dispatch
Watched a mature lion dispatched cleanly with a .17HMR through the ribs recently and know some guys use a .22 Mag.
Anyone routinely using a .22 LR? Bullet preference? Shot placement?

Re: Any issue running young "lion" dogs on coon
Thanks. I borrowed my buddies older dog to help out and they all three did great. My female especially did awesome. Watching the gps it looked like whenever they got hung up it was either her or the older dog that got it straightened out. My male seems to really excel at the tree though. I think ...

Garmin won't unlock maps
I have an Alpha that when I first got it would show the topo that was loaded at the factory. After using it for a while I now get a message when it turns on that says "can't unlock maps".
I got online and tried unlock codes/keys after registering the device but no dice.
I have an OnX chip that ...

Re: Any issue running young "lion" dogs on coon
Thanks for the input guys. The bear issue makes sense to me. No running bears in Montana so kind of a non-issue for me. Sounds like it probably won't mess them up on cats so will keep hunting them.
Great story on the lion Mike!

Thanks Tom!
That was from this summer when I had released some coon for them.

Late to the game...
New to hounds and cat hunting but I have some buddies with proven dogs to help straighten out the learning curve a bit.
I have a young male and female that are litter mates from an old houndsman out of Utah (Max Otten). I am told the line is heavily influenced by "Nance" bred dogs but I am pretty ...

Any issue running young "lion" dogs on coon
IMG_6397.JPG I have a couple young dogs that I bought to run primarily on lions. I started them as young dogs on caged coon and they have done very well both on solo runs and together.
I have had them out on one lion tree after some older dogs put it up. We kicked the young cat out for them and ...

New to the site and to the thread. Gotta say I am pretty impressed with the OP and his composure. Very impressive to me. I hope you are having a good time with your kids.
