Re: how to start 3 young blueticks correctly?
X2 what full cry hounds said, the best trainer for your pups is a older hound that chases exactly what you want it to. Spending a grand +/- for a trainer is well worth the investment, a year from now you will have that much in your pups if not more and might not have any hunters in the group of 3.

Re: Tree climbing dogs
If you can break a dog off of trash you can break him off of tree climbing. I have done it and will not put up with a dog that climbs.
How did you do that? I have thought about it but was afraid shocking him as he climbed would be associated with treeing, then I thought about trying to teach him ...

Re: Gascon?
Gascon are Bluetick, UKC registered, They are also register under the ABGHA if they pass standards. Basically another group of Bluetickers that had there own ideas and can't get along with the rest of the bluetickers and started there own group like the BBOA and BBCHA.

Re: hounds as pets
All i know is for hundreds of years, these "old timers" dogs were bred for one reason, to catch game, nothing else. its only been more resent that people are wanting thier hounds to be pets also, we all know that some dogs can live in your house, and go catch game. but any one can see that a dog ...

Re: hounds as pets
my thought is hounds are a tool you use to get a task done. doesnt mean you have to treat them pourly, but they were never bred to be a pet, always hunting first,
I agree, if they end up not making the 'cut' how do you cull your pet?
Take it to a shelter ran by PETA

Re: hounds as pets
Craigs - Good looking gascon and/or bluetick.
Thanks, There just Bluetick right now, Sassy will meet the Gascon standard but Sampson (dark all blue) probably will not, ears to short. But at 10 months he is close to 100 pounds!

Just thinking about hunting big game and
Was wondering if it would be possible for a guy to take his hounds out West or North or even East and have any success on Bear or Cats.
I live in central Iowa so I hunt coon with my hounds but was just thinking if it was possible. Take a week and go some were else and hunt them on different game ...
