Re: TWRA MEETING WITH THE DOG HUNTERS AUG 12TH
Sounds like you guys in Tennessee are having the same problem we are in Texas with one of our national forests. I hope it works out better for you than it has for us so far. If y'all figure out the magic words let us know, maybe we can do the same.

Re: Coyotes
My uncle used to run greyhounds on coyotes when I was a kid. One greyhound on a coyote and they'd have to scrap a little, but two would stretch one out pretty quick. This was in South Dakota, we have some pretty decent sized coyotes out there.

Re: australian hunting dogs
This dogs father came from australia. I pretty much use her as a lead in catch dog, but I can dump her on one if I see it. I wish I got that chance more often.

Re: What's your favorite
I've got a catahoula, a hound cross, and another crossed up cur for strike dogs. I don't much care what it is as long as it can find and stop it's own, is silent on track, hunts short to medium range, and will back up and bay the bigger hogs.

Re: Tracking sytsem Help, and input
I normally run both systems on my dogs, but if I could only run one I would pick telemetry without hesitation. GPS is great, but when it fails it's a nightmare. Not to mention the collars only last for nineteen hours or so, where you get thousands of hours out of a telemetry collar.

Re: bay dogs
Like the others said, 2-3 when I hunt on my own. If I hunt with a buddy we sometimes bring four. Sometimes we let them all out, sometimes not. It just depends on which dogs we have and how much country we want to cover.

Re: Any body feed their dogs hog?
If we wind up with a bunch of shoats that I don't feel like cleaning a lot of times I'll just throw a whole quarter in the pen hide, hoof and all. Dogs do fine on it and haven't had worm problems, but I worm every month so maybe the wormer is just getting them. Other than that, if the people freezer ...

Re: why not shot
yeah i got it now, don't know why it seemed like such a hard thing to grasp and believe me I appreciate your patience. I don't have an issue with it at all, seems like lights out pretty quick, and it obviously doesn't mess with your dogs if they're still catching again and again. I think maybe the ...

Re: why not shot
I'm still having trouble, I'm not trying to be rude I swear. So while the dog is still holding the hog's ear you put a .41 mag to the back of the hog's head a couple inches from the dogs face and shoot the hog in the back of the head?

Re: why not shot
Not trying to argue by any means, just making sure I'm clear. You're saying that while a dog is caught on a hogs ear and holding the hog you have shot the hog, with no negative effect on the dog?

Re: the garmin
As a hog hunter I really tend to be hard on equipment. The mud and water and rough hogs will weed out stuff that don't work pretty quick. The DC30s that I've got were a great investment and I'll probably get more before they quit working them. I've gotten ranges over a mile with just the normal ...

Re: does the dumb friends league right to trespass
No way does he have the right to tresspass. I'd try and get some evidence and let the law have him. A game camera picture of him walking by a No Tresspassing sign would be great. I don't know how this guy would think he's in the right. It doesn't matter if you showed him your dogs once, he can't ...

Re: why not shot
Shooting a hog that's caught is a real good way to cause a wreck. It will ruin your catch dog and the next time you walk up to leg one you'll be in trouble when he lets go. Shooting a bayed hog is different, lots of people do it but I like using catch dogs better. I can use catch dogs at night, I ...

Re: Do you catch and hobble your hogs or do you stick them?
I stick almost every hog I catch. I might hobble one if I catch it early on in a hunt and then stick it right before I leave or if I need something to train with. My landowners want hogs dead or at least hauled off. If I got caught turning one loose once I caught it that would probably the last time ...

Re: Protective vests
I like the ugly dog ranch gear. I've run their guardian kevlar vests and the devastator vests and had real good luck with both. They make a good cut collar too. I like the lighter, more flexible ones I can't think what they call them. Leather would be ok I guess, but with all the mud and water and ...
