Re: MULES,HORSES AND HOUNDS
Huntallthetime, where you hunting in va? I have a couple buddies that have been bear hunting off their mules for a couple years now and had a lot of success. I agree completely with you it’s fairly unheard of in va. I’ve got a 4yo John mule I’m breaking riding with my squirrel dogs and will ...

Re: New to scent dogs, looking for advice.
Basic obedience, walks in the woods, crossing creeks and yes you can socialize with other dogs. Don’t expect too much too soon. If you have sombody with good hounds to run with when he’s older I wouldn’t bother sending him off anywhere

Re: Getting started on coon hunting
It's obvious to see from your previous posts that you sir are no houndsman, how on earth do you expect somebody to learn with the advice you've given. If everybody treated novices like you have the image of houndsman would be far more tarnished and support for the sport would dwindle faster than ...

Re: Getting started on coon hunting
I know where you're coming from, I have 2 little ones that tag along as much as possible. Don't be discouraged at all, do what you think you will enjoy. It sounds like you are in an awesome situation and ideal to coon hunt. You're already ahead of the game where most people struggle to get farms to ...

Re: Getting started on coon hunting
X2 on jeffs post. Feeders work great for a short amount of time then just start putting your dogs where you know coon are naturally. Personally if you're just getting started with young dogs I'd only have one hunting at a time to cause less problems. Drags and cage coons cause more harm than good in ...

Re: Best person to get my dog started with or talk to about Bobcat hunting.
I believe William landrum does some cat dog training after bear season goes out, never have personally used him but a couple of guys I bear hunt with own dogs trained by William or have had dogs trained by him and have heard nothing but good about him and his program.

Re: Bobcat hunting in the West Virginia/ Virginia with a green dog.
where about you hunting around, I'm not far from wv in va. The best advice I can give you that I have received on starting cats from scratch is to get a skiff of snow and go ride some roads, try to find a track and walk the dog out the track until they get excited about it. I've always wanted to run ...

Re: new dog
I agree I have no tolerance for growling in the box, I've made it very well known among my hounds that I'll be the only one growling and that's their first and only warning. Now in the yard If I bring new dog around I keep it leashed and let my dogs get a sniff before I unsnap, not for the sake of ...
