Re: Tough Conditions Make for Tough Training

Gary, I am sure if he is one of your pups he will get through it. I just had a litter of pups that I think will be top notch and cant wait to get em going......they are only a week old soooo it will be a while but I am super pumped. This dry weather is making it tough, but we just moved over to La ...

Re: Hunt on the O'Connor Ranch

Hey Gary,
Did you see the pictures of the Lion Joe and Jr. caught last week down around Laredo? Looked like a nice cat. I went down and hunted the powder dust around Fowlerton last week, we got a spat of rain and slow moved a track down by the Nueces and found about a three day old javalina kill ...

Re: Fence/ kennel help

Sugestion for feeding time and a video of my hounds at feeding time. I stay in the pen with them while feeding, you can see I have a new male pup still trying to find his place in the pack, but the others know exactly where they stand.

Re: Cutting Lion tracks at night

Mike I agree with you, what is snow, and all this jibber jabber about cutting a track in the snow?? I remember the first time I took some of my west Texas hounds to Colorado to hunt it was a "dry" year for them and the guys were all sittin around waiting for snow, not me, we dumped into a nasty ...

Re: Hunt on the O'Connor Ranch

Gary, Small world that it is, I met an old houndsman who has a ranch down in Cotulla/ Fowlerton area, we were talking the other day and he was telling me about Joe and gave me his number to give him a call and try to make a hunt with him over there. The mans name is Dale, and he swears up and down ...

Re: Video! Daytime Cool fottage of hounds locating in tree!

That was out just north of Ft Davis, I absolutely loved that canyon country training dogs because I could see what they were doing and make adjustments from way back. Now down here in this thick brush I am having a harder time with this new pack of young dogs but I am adjusting......

Video! Daytime Cool fottage of hounds locating in tree!

Check out these dogs push an early morning trail, then watch as they figure where the coon treed, my bet is he went up or was up way before they ever jumped him.....it is pretty clear as the hounds keep circling the tree to see if he went past..

Re: Coon activity in the Summer

Next time you get a chance to get down here I would like to meet ya maybe for a cup of coffee or a hunt or two with the hounds.
I am with ya on the nose part, not sure about the competition part as I have never been to one or have desire to go to one, I got into hound hunting in big country ...

Re: Any christian houndsmen out there.

Back in Feburary I donated a hunt to a christian youth group to help raise money for their summer camps. The group is called Cross Trails Outfitters and from what I can tell they are doing a great job with the young men of tomorrow helping bring Christ into their lives through hunting and fishing. I ...

Re: Coon activity in the Summer

Gary, the walker and bluetick were both older dogs that never jumped in the middle of any game, they were great on lions out there and bears up in Nm. The other three were young dogs and the black walker pup grew into a game grabber for sure. The fights didnt last long after that, I sold him to a ...

Re: Black Cats?

There is an old timer down here in south Texas that I met a few months back that swears he has pictures of some black cats, he is pushing 70 now and we hit it off cause we both cut our teeth cat hunting in the Davis mountains of west Texas while going to school at Sul Ross.....30 years apart, so I ...

Re: Communicating with Your Hounds!

Your right on about the eyes. Last week I had to put my best hound down, he had been dropping weight, not eating much and laying around the pen, turns out his kidney was shutting down and the vet did blood work and said it was bassically irreversible. That being said, the day before I took him into ...
