Re: just got home. its 11pm. Boars dead. so is one of my dogs.
i know your pain. I lost my best female 4 monthes ago to a bad hog, and I lost my best male to a bad hog 2 weeks ago. If you are in this game long enough, you will end up at the bottom sooner or later. Just about like starting over. It is going to be hard to recover. But it can be done.

Re: Runnings Hogs AND Bear
Hog, unlike a deer, lacks the scent glands on their leg, therefore, They leave very little scent, and other than the bobcat, leave the least scent of any other animal that is pursued with hounds in North America. A bear leaves more scent than any game that most hounds run after. My hounds have cold ...

June Galford turns 100
This is a story from the Pocahontis W.V. Times about a great bearhunter and field trialer named June Galford. He was famouse for his light colored Redbone hounds which won many of a bear field trial in WV in years past. Happy 100 , Mr Galford.

Ben Lilly tales by Lilly/ Carmony is the best I have read. High lonesome books is the place to get it. Yes, he had to have been the toughest man to ever follow a hound.

Re: ?
A bobcat leaves about the least scent of any animal that is chased with hounds in North America, and like Brinkdog said, hogs dont have the scent glands like a deer or a bear, and to most peoples surprise, hogs are the second hardest track to follow , once the trail has grown a few hours old.

Re: easier or harder to tree?
Here is another thought....in some places near here, some of these so called "Sportsmen" will turn loose 30-40 dogs on a bear, even during training season. All you are doing when you do this , is educating a bear and teaching 3/4 ths of those dogs how to run a dog track. After a bear has been run a ...

Good Posts Mike, and no, you are not wrong. The Claude Dallas thing was just as you said...some pushy Law just pushed a poor boy just a little too far. they were trying to push him into a fight so, they could arrest him on a disorderly charge, but they just pushed him farther than even they wanted ...
