I have used bark collars on my dogs in their kennel consistantly. At times i have left them on the dogs for a week or two. They dont bark much around the house, unless they can smell a bear or cat, then they will bark right through the collar... I dont think it effects them on the trail or in any ...

One thing to keep in mind, if you plan on riding a full size horse and you buy a POA or real small horse for your kids it will be a problem. I have been there.
